ok the book recommends AT fluid but why???
also is it safe to run normal gearbox oil in it or not???

yeah i have put gearbox oil in as well, mine was leaking to, must be coz its so thin!!

Yeah, I went with gearbox I'd fluid when I had to change mine over and to be honest... The gear changes are alot ...clunkier... And harder to do. I dont know what was there previously, but i wish I did!
there was a bit on patrol forum that nissan gearboxes don't like gl-5 oil. need to use the older gl-4 oil. however i don't know how that applies with multi standard oil.

well come to think of it i put multirax in mine and it is the same joshman untill it gets hot now i think that oil is a gl-5, i will see what its like after my 2000km run this weekend and i might change it again.

just a quick heads up, gl-4 is manual gearbox oil and gl-5 is diff oil....obviously diff oil is going to be thicker even if it says its the same weight asgearbox oil.... only gearbox you should be putting gl-5 in is a suby box.... for our trucks gl-4
