hey guys

Im going to turbo my td27 . . .

i have my own business , SKH Performance , i specialise in Evo only tig-ing up custom intake and exhaust manifolds and cooler piping . . . so i decided to build my own turbo setup using a t25 ca18 turbo . . . benefits me being a boilermakes /mechanic , but i spent my time in petrol so i have been on a learning curve with this rough and tumble work truck but loving it .

Im just wondering the level of interest , cos Im doing it anyway , but Im wondering if you guys want like a step by step type thing with photos incase anyone else wants to follow my footsteps ect .

i have only a few little items left to purchase but i have basically everything including all laser cut flanges , mandrels , turbo , oil and coolent lines and fittings needed . ill be running an external gate at 8psi initially .

outlay so far for all parts is 380 and remaining bits have been quoted at 80 bucks so it will come in at around 500 bucks and some elbow grease . . .

enough interest and ill do a photos step by step and if enough people show interest ill jig the manifold if your guys what one . . .

i chose the ca18 turbo cos there close to our td27 turbo and readily available on ebay as they are often removed in good nick for the Nissan boys to upgrade .

anyrate , if there is enough interest ill start a build log and we can go along from there . so post up here to show how many are keen .

cheers

Seano

wow , im actually really surprised that only 2 people have an interest in this . . . i was not sure what response i would get but i was sure maybe more then 2 people !

and here i was planning to jig up the manifold and gate elimination dumps in 2.5 and 3 inch , to mandrel them and set them for OEM fitment ( which would increase my time hard , but save you guys time when you go to the exhaust shop or if you have that size pipe already and your exhaust shop flanged it your laughing . . . ) in case people on here wanted to turbo there Nav for well under the grand when i see people spend big bucks and running over budget even on this forum . . . i guess using sensible parts and being cost effective is out the window for an MTQ or who ever brand name turbo kit for 2800 +

anyway , i suppose ill just do these ones :nhl_checking: and keep moving with it anyway and i might just do a brief and inbox it to dion and shoot it to two you guys . . . im just not goin to waste my time and the forums space with a comprehensive how to with photo's if no one is really interested . im not sookin it just does not make sense to me

planning to hit it in the next 2 or 3 weekends time , put in for time off today .

I would like to see photos and a write up. Every bit of info is helpful!
I have just turbo'd my QD32, pretty much a bigger TD27, and had to do it with little to no prior information.
I was happy to have people help out but I think my write up is terrible.

At least some photos of the parts before and after they are on the engine would be cool.

Settle down mate. The D21 section here is not as active as the D22 and D40 areas, and lets be honest, the D21s are getting a bit long in the tooth, and plenty of people with the TD27s have likely already turboed them. If they haven't yet, they're probably not interested in doing so.

If you're looking for a business project, you might get a better response with the QD32 diesels in the D22. Its a newer engine, theres more of them, and as far as I know, didn't come out turboed factory in any Navara so bolt on solutions aren't as easy to find as for the TD27.

If you're looking to show off your handiwork, I'm keen to see it. Post it up!

pinelli , Im not upset or looking to show off , and i am calm, and i ment no harm as Im sure everyone did not either . the qd manifold is almost the same tho with some differences so it wouldn't be too much more work for me to set up for those boys , it would just mean a volunteer vehicle , but never mind , i have my own business in Evo's and work full time .

where i was coming from was actually doing cad and inventor drawings that could be taken anywhere and used by who ever .

from what i have found out anyway some qd guys actually use a td manifold anyway , and , should qd guys wanna go that way ( pinelli has a very good point lets be honest ;-) ) the manifold would fit , modded for egr and clearance , lines are the same just to different places ect , and can just be given a gate elimination flange in either 2.5 or 3 inch ready for there exhaust shop to fill the gap or fit a new exhaust , what ever is intended .

i understand there getting older , but the turbo road is quite expensive without having 10 years in the import performance game to develop contacts , skills and tools required , ect . . . that generally means paying someone big bucks . so my intentions were to spend a decent amount of time and include plans , photos , parts list and fitting instructions . . . but yeah i am not upset or cranky ect , surprised yes , but nothing negative

i may , taking what pinelli has said look at making it either td and qd if possible if people may want that

why move the turbo ? . i said i would want the chance take a look at a vehicle cos i have not had a look qd only talked to people . . . why move the turbo ? hopefully its not for dump fitment . . .

You may find these QD photos useful?

God I wish I had have waited to find a TD27 manifold before I did my turbo. Would have made life eaiser. How much longer to go now Dion?

Haha well I can say I had a little bit of trouble fitting the dump pipe in. All worked out in the end though. 3" pipe and an internal gated T25 leaving just enough room between the pipe and the firewall.

Dunno if its any help, but I can tell you that a zd30 dump pipe will bolt right on to the td27T turbo manifold.

And sorry Seano, a little harsher than I meat to be. Good on ya for making the offer.

i know right . its the same laser cut flange my turbo mob i deal through sell for both turbo's so yeah

and Im a thick skinned little barstard mate no problems !. thanks for having the balls i appreciate it .

and Dion , judging by those pics my design is already moved forward . . . so that explains it . Im using donuts in 2.5 and 3 inch for my dumps cos there the 2 popular sizes , but my design is individual runners and locates the turbo smack between 2 and 3 so in actual fact it is forward of the photos you put up . . .

and before anyone asks the external gate clears everything and you have intake clearance for altenator ect .

it also seems my ute has maybe the petrol airbox ? . its mounted back on the passenger side so its designed to work with that .

if i was to sell the manifold i tig up Im thinking about 200 to 250 ish . . . but if i was to do that and actually sell them , id like to do like i did with the Evo 1-3 , 4-6 , and 7-9 manifolds i do and id like to do some R&D first .

I dunno, got most of what I need, I just have to sort out the pre-turbo pipework. But installing it means taking the car off the road, and it's my only car.

Dion, want to flick your old mani??

Which one?

That sounds like the pre-88 king cab petrol pre-cleaner... picture? There is no airbox on any D21 diesel, as they use a round element directly on top of the intake manifold like an old carby motor. So it might be wise to design for something like an 80 series airbox:

your old QD exh mani.. so i can use it to jig up some steam bends and flanges.

unless you have a spare td27 turbo mani??
