I Was doing a ring around today for prices, when i came across one company who said he doesn't carry MT anymore because several customers have had cracking occur in the sidewalls. With few models Being mud tyres they won't cover warranty. Both here and the states.
Has anyone heard similar or know anything more???

I've got STZ's on my Nav and they've thus bar been bulletproof. I use it as a daily driver, but it also gets semi-regular trips into the bush. Has seen a variety of terrain from logging roads to steep/rocky ascents/descents, rocky river crossings and a bit of mud. Has also seen the occasional rutted track and plenty of corrugations. Mine have probably done around 10,000k's by now.

Any further info on the model and size of tyres which have the problem? May be an issue specific to one set of circumstances?

Mine have been great too. Never heard of that rumour.

Sounds like an old sales ploy.

It was strange as I've heard nothing but praises.
He didn't seem to interested in trying Ti throw anything else at me, although the prices on some cooper tyres were dirt cheap... Nearly 100 bills less per corner.

Interested to see if anyone has the new STZ???

Coopers are overrated pieces of crap, go somewhere else and get the mickey t's, don't overlook other brands like kuhmo and Yokohama

I'm not really a big fan of the tread pattern, although there a good tyre if I was looking for an all terrain I'd want a slightly more aggressive patern

Sounds like a sales pitch to me!

The Coopers may be cheaper because they are not the correct rating for Australia.........from memory there were some issues going back of cheaper Coopers being brought in but they don't make the grade.

I've had both Copper STT and Mickey MTZ............I would not get STT again, I would get MTZ's again.

Yep I've got the stz and they are a good tyer don't get me wrong but I have also had a rock in the side wall they have done 10,000kms and the tyer company replaced it for free so I'm happy with that.

I have mickeys, so far done 50k over all sorts of terrain with no issues and they still have around 50% of tread left. I will be buying them again for sure, great tyre.

I had some bloke in a tyre dealership telling me that Mickeys and Cooper come out of the same factory, with Mickeys being the cheaper shit export model of the Coopers... Oh yeah and i asked him how much for 265 75 16 st maxx... he said he wouldnt fit them to my ute as they were illegal. and no they didnt make them in 70 profile. What about the at3? oh yeah how much for those buddy? $1550 fitted. Yeah no worries mate, stick that in your ass. Id rather the Mickeys...

apparently they do come from same factory and also had some bob jane tmart sales monkey saying mick T's are "low technology" and better off buying bridgestones...once he said that i wanted to grab that pen from his front pockets and stab his frikin eyes out. fkn bridgestones yea right! and what branded tyre he specialised in?? shitstones

As we have all speculated on here, i think it best to do the research, ring around for prices and go with what suits best. Back in the days of no internet, we had to rely on what expertise our honourable dealers had to share with us. But we are beating them at their own game, and a lot of them havent woken up to it yet. BTW, i have to ask, and sorry for hijacking the MT thread, does anybody know what went wrong in the Kuhmo factory a few years back? I remember my old man always ran the Kuhmo Powerguard, they were an awesome tyre. But something went wrong somewhere because people stopped buying them and they stopped making them. Did the competitors catch up? or did they start making shit tyres? 4 Blokes i knew had them back then, now they all run Mickey Thompson MTZ...

I am hijacking too but why is it that the Aussie dollar is now better than one US dollar yet these imported American tyres continue to rise in price?

They might have an excuse if we were still back at 60 odd cents .

omg i have not heard one bad thing about MT MTZ's. Every tom dick n harry swears by them. They have been around since for EVER!

I got Micky MTZ's love em done about 35000. Also got cooper st's on my work ute and they are wearing good and are quieter but they developed crackes around the bead on all 5 tyers including un used spare. They seid it was superficial cracking and would not replace.... NOT HAPPY water can get in and cause a blow out but they were not budging. Bottom line "I will never buy coopers again" No matter how good ROOTHY says they are...

Same reason our fuel goes up? Someone please explain how an unrefined product such as Diesel can be 10c more a litre here in Mackay than Unleaded. Or is it because every one in town has a turbo Diesel? Pretty sure fuel in the US is still under $1 a litre...
