Piss poor governance !

I am a veteran serviceman whose injuries are covered by the Department of Veterans Affairs whilst serving in the ustralian Regular Army. I am fed up by the severe rorting by the various medical authorities performed on veterans at tax payer funded expense. (THIS IS MY RANT!)

My wife and I travelled to Greenslopes private hospital in Brisbane from Coffs Harbour to attend my mid-day specialist appointment on Monday. We arrived early at the Greenslopes shopping centre at 10.30am, with the plan to have an early lunch and I could have a haircut at the barbers.

When we attended our scheduled appointment, I was stunned to be informed by my specialist that he could no longer see me due to that he thought a Crohns disease Gastroenterologist was needed. (Why the f—k could he not have informed us 3 weeks earlier, when my wife was advising him of my worsening condition at my GPS surgery) What really pissed me off is the fact that we travelled over 800ks return trip between Brisbane and Coffs Harbour, (over 12 hours f—king travelling) for a 15 minute specialist appointment.

The taxpayers (that’s you folks) were duded to a tune of $800.00 for a negligent waste of time i.e. $400.00 for the specialist, $275.00 for food and fuel and $125.00 for a carers payment for the day.

I now have been informed that I have to attend the Wesley Hospital in Brisbane next Tuesday to see my new specialist for a meet and greet day. This should have been done 3 weeks ago!

What should have occurred was my then current specialist should ethically have advised my GP that he was not up to the task and that he recommended the following specialist to take over. That would have saved me all the f—king pain and suffering and the tax payer would not have been misappropriated out of funds. (This sort of shit really pisses me off)

This sort of thing happens all the time, and you know, that doctor got some extra money for seeing you for those 15 minutes. If he'd just written to your GP advising that he's handing the case to a particular specialist, he'd not have gotten the money for your visit.

Yes, the taxpayer is out some cash. That's indirectly caused by a system that allows it to happen. It's directly caused by a greedy doctor who didn't have to do a thing for 15 minutes and collect his pay at the end.

It sucks badly. I have to see a surgeon about my hand (injured in a MVA) and I'm doing it privately. Why? If I do it under compensation, not only does he charge 3 times as much, but he charges $750 every time he has to send a report (even if it's just resending the same one to someone else). It's just greed.

Living in this country with the banks and insurers etc that we have, you'd think we'd be bloody accustomed to greedy bastards by now!

Completely agree RLI - my sis in law got stuffed round every time she went in for kemo for breast cancer treatment. after 6 months of kemo, they still did a masectomy - the kicker being was they don't tell you that until the last kemo treatment (so your not disapointed)...... WTF!

You could try a stamp+piece of paper + envelope and write a letter the DVA minister stating that you think this guy doesn't deserve any payment for wasting yours and the dept's time and money.

That does nothing. Once they are on the 'preffered carers' list for defence they would have to kill a battalion worth of people through proovable neglegance to be removed from such a list.

The problem is the people running the show and making the decisions have the attitude of "it's not money out of my wallet, it doesn't effect my pay. So who gives a shit"

never mind i pay 900 a week tax and i would rather pay 1000 vetrens bills than 1 dole bludging junkie who only shoots my money up there arm thats the real wast of tax payers money and when i retire for my contribution to society i can freeze in winter as i wont be entitled to a pension and my super will only last 10 years, hopefully i only last 5 that way at least ill get a nice woden box that there will be no room for in the ground so ill get burnt again, god help us this is depressing

Vet provider approval is the holy grail for health. They see it as a bottomless pit of easy money. Worst part is they stuffed you around rli and think nothing of it.
