Steering rack leakage

Gday all,

I've got an 09 STX, that is about 1 - 2 months out of warranty.

sure enough, I drive it off the other day and bam, almost all of my power steering oil was on the driveway.

Gave it to the mechanic to have a look at, and there is a small tear in my CV boot, but he said the main fault is a seal inside the steering rack itself.

My main question, is, if it has happened under warranty, and I just haven't noticed, (because the tear wasn't there, I don't think) is there any way I can get Nissan to honour the warranty? I don't have high hopes...

Otherwise its either 1000+ for a new rack, or reconditioning the old one for 500ish but no guarantee...

If you services at a dealer they may come to the party if not, good luck. You can buy the seals separate, a torn cv boot is not warranty either... Unless the rubber has tarnished I.e. gone brittle and gain brin out of warranty you have almost no chance
