Shrug, not even following it. If he is guilty of criminal charges, then the police will charge him. Any accusation flung by a politician is extremely suspect. When it is reported in the media, then you can be 99.999999% sure that it is false.

No wonder we have the politicians we do, just look at the people who elected them!

And anyone who thinks that the opposition would act any differently if it was happening to their side has got rocks in their head. At the end of the day if it's criminal then it should be charged by the cops and reported by the media, not accused by a political party and blown out of proportion by the media.

In the defense of "those who elect them" they don't give us much choice, if we don't vote we get fined and if we do vote we a politician, the only thing voting does for us is not make us so hypocritical when we comment about the terrible job they all do.

i think its more along the lines of if you don't get your name ticked off the list. there's nothing they can do if you don't actually fill out the paper. on the other hand, if you don't then you don't get a choice who gets in there...

Donkey voting is a piss poor way out as you say if a person doesn't vote what right do they have to bag out the either party?

Sure this country is built on whingers and moaners who think it's their god given right to bitch in the loudest possible voice when they don't get something they want but if a person is going to blatantly ignore their right to vote and then complains that the elected official is a dick then it makes them no better than the dick in power.

We dont vote for the better candidate, we vote for the lesser of two evils

I reckon we should have an "australia's got talent" meets "celebrity apprentice" style election. They all get three goes to prove to us they have the talent to be there, then they get three weeks in the job to prove they can do it, at the end of the test we do a phone in voting system (because going to the polling booth sucks) and vote the pricks we don't like out.

if we don't vote we get fined

<hair split> Not quite. You get fined if you don't get your name marked off the roll.</hair split>

Whether you mark your ballot paper in a manner that constitutes a valid vote or not is entirely up to you, but don't leave it blank for someone else to pocket and mark.

No hair split about it if you get caught handing in a blank voting form you are fined the same as not voting. Both carry a fine, both carry the same likelihood of being caught and both are a piss poor way to do things.

Here's something worth reading, and considering. Just be sure to ignore the political leanings of the author and consider the crux of his thesis:

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-05-24/green-moral-authority/4028604

enjoy!

Umm, he doesn't have a thesis, but is just making childish blather of naivety, or are you suggesting that what ever he is on should be handled out to every one?

Parliaments everywhere have always acted "in its own higher, institutional interest,". The difference is ours is now composed of children with little experience, no morals and just driven by short term greed. At the least the old farts of a few decades ago did it with far better style, manners(well most times) and a longer viewpoint, but essentially they were the same.

Bullshit, no one is entitled to look at your vote so they don't know if you entered a valid vote of not*. You fold it up and stuff it into the box along with all the others.

* Wow, Victorians must be really dumb if they don't know how to get away with not casting a valid vote. 10% of the mob around here have managed it at times and they are supposedly welfare trash.

Point is still that if you get caught you can be fined, but hey lets keep the personal insults happening because insults always prove you're right.

Sure this country is built on whingers and moaners

Technically, this country wasn't built by whingers and moaners. First up, it was basically a military camp where the commandant told you the rules, convict or not, then we went to greek style democracy where the land holders told you what to do and finally the various forms of universal sufferage rolled through.

However, people voted and then went, "oh well, perhaps we will have better luck next time" and got on with working and making this country better.

The only people who moaned and whinged were the silver spooners who thought they had a god given right to rule, were pissed off that they they couldn't bring the English class system here and really supported themselves by being parasites on the backs of workers.

My apologies, the word "is" in that statement was referring to current time, i.e. this country is currently built on the back of whingers and moaners. History lessons were not intended to be part of my post.

How are you going to get caught?

Hint, no one is entitled to look at your vote before you put it into the box.

Also, if you prepoll or absentee, you seal your vote into an envelop which goes into the posted envelope with the paperwork. Any vote counter at the other end that opens both is going to be in very hot water. The sealed votes go to a separate counting table.

Of course, if you take in a mega texta and write on the ballot papper, they might all notice you doing it, but where exactly under the act does it empower them to stop you putting it in the vote box?

but hey lets keep the personal insults happening because insults always prove you're right.

I guess that was a WOOSH at that joke then.

So you won't appreciate the idiot attempting to not vote who wites "Not 1 moron worth voting for" and clearly make a vertical mark through one and only one of the voting boxes. It gets counted and the other candidates can challenge it in court if they want to.
