driveline noise

By 2007 D40 diesel Navara has just started making a horrible noise from the driveline. Sounds like tailshaft or rear axle. It sounds a bit like buggered CV joints on a front wheel drive. Only does it under load - eg accelerating off in first. The local dealer reckons it might be something in the tailshaft, but the tailshaft is a dead simple one-piece thing and the Uni joints look fine. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum!

You might have a D40 purchased in 2007 but I wonder if it's covered by this particular recall. Your dealer should have been able to check that, but maybe they forgot (it was a few years ago now!).

My guess will be the rear UJ.
My 07 did the same thing. UJ looked fine and by hand I couldn't get any movement out of it but when I pulled it out the thing pretty much fell to bits in my hand.
