Hi guys,

While putting on my Ironman bash plates yesterday I managed to break one of the bolts. It sheared off a few mm into the captive nut in one of the cross members. I have tried drilling and tapping the bolt with LH taps but it wont budge. Anything else I can do? Its in there pretty tight. Silly mistake really!

Welding a nut on will be hard but my mate reckons he can do it. Will have to just build it up until there is enough to weld a nut onto.

Are there any other options? I realise I could probably drill it out to the next size and re tap it but just want to cover all bases before I do that.

Just keep drilling with progressive bigger drills and trying bigger ezi outs, And if you end up drilling all the thread out put a heli coil in it, that way you keep the same thread as whats already there

Sheared Bolt

Mate go and get a can of Reducteur H72 Super Releasing Agent made by Jones & Park at Prestons in NSW. Bunnings used to sell it. Spray it into the seized bolt and wait for a bit and it should come out OK. I have successfully removed seized bolts with it before. Hope this helps.
