Yep... another tyre size thread...

Hey all,

Long time lurker, first time poster. Just purchased a new D40 Navara in August and am looking to replace the crappy stock Goodyear Wrangler HT's. The stock size is 255/65/17.

I live in Vic and wouldn't mind getting peoples experiences with regards to tyre sizes that fit under a stock D40?

I am not looking to fit a lift kit (until the stock shocks etc chop out) so I really like the idea of 265/70/17 which by calcs will result in about a 20 mm lift over stock size. Would like 275/70/17 but reckon I would have clearance issues... not sure if they would even fit on stock rims?

Do you reckon this tyre size is appropriate? Or will I have clearance issues under the wheel arches?

I know that question has been answered probably 1000 times so dont be surprised if you dont have people rushing in to answer for you.
A quick search using the search function will probably get the answer for you quicker.
But i will say 285 will definately not fit without a good lift..

Thanks and yeah I understand, its not the most exciting subject. I did do a quick search but mainly found info on 16 inch rims

I wouldn't reckon 285's would fit either. Would love it if I could stretch to 275 though

265/75/16 is the same as 265/70/17 and 285/75/16 same as 285/70/17 and so on not sure if 265 will fit stock height with factory bumper.

Don't hate me I'm in my phone n searching had gotten me no where but frustrated. Can someone plainly say what the biggest size is on the standard 17 inch rim with no lift

I ran Kumho 265/75/16 AT's on my 2006 Spain build D40 before it got a lift kit two weeks ago. No clearance issues whatsoever. Fit on the stock wheel too, which from memory is a +20 offset on the Spanish Navs.

But mine are a 16" rim sorry. 265/75's will fit on a bog stock D40. Any bigger than that, and you will need lift.

I have 275/70r17 on my standard rims with a 50mm lift, i could have gone a 285 with room too, pretty sure the 275 will fit with standard suspension

Im about to throw some 285/75/16's on mine now its got a 2" lift and chop the guards behind the front tyres. There's two really good threads on it not far down i was reading.

I pondered over this for the 70,000K it took to wear out my factory fitted Wranglers. I wanted to go larger but was somewhat limited to how large I could go by by my lease company so in the end I went from 255/65/17 Wranglers to 265/65/17 Cooper ST3's. Only 10mm larger in overall diameter but by going to 265/65/17 I was able to get the AT3 in Light Truck construction with additional ply v the 255/65/15. They fitted without any problem without a lift and no clearance issues. Only thing I had to do was trim back the plastic trim that fills in under the bullbar. Cut it back to the same profile as the inner guard and all sweet. You could probably go bigger to 265/70/17 without any problem but for me the 265/65/17 was a good compromise.

Just fitted 285/75/16's to mine on the stock STX wheels. No scrubbing at all with 60mm lift front and 70mm lift rear
