Tub height on D 40

Has anyone tried to raise the tub height on a D 40.
I have a need to temporarily carry 10 gerrycans but I cant stand them upright in the tub with the cover on without damaging the cover.
Was thinking of removing the aluminium channel, adding a 80mm strip of aluminium or steel strap all around then attaching the channel to that.
This should raise the height by 40mm which is enough for the cover to go on over those nice Yellow gerrycans that I bought.

Gerrycans must stand upright - need the room in the tub.

Any comments on my idea or other suggestions would be great.

Its a hard cover I take it?

My soft torneu has a peice of elastic and some clips running around the inside for that very purpose. Has yours got them? The clips should clip onto the existing aluminium bits on the side of your tub.

So that's what they're for!!

Just tried it out with my nice yellow gerrycans and see that it will do the job - even so will need to cover the tops of the gerrycans with old towels or such to stop them rubbing.
Must be expensive though?? as only 2 on each side (thanks Nissan) - will need about 10 to do the job properly.

You have saved me a lot of work and no doubt a headache or two.
