D40 - Can't engage reverse

Hi Guys,

Wondering if anyone can help. My D40 ST-X has been having issues with the gear stick lately. When the car is warmed up after driving 20-30k's I can't push the gear stick down to engage reverse, I really have to smack it to get it down and then for it to pop back up I have to yank it. Has anyone had this before??

I would drain the oil into a clear container and see what comes out as a starting point. (Hopefully not to much shrapnel)

With a bit of luck a flush & new oil might fix it. Otherwise you will need to start pulling things apart, I would look at a sticking detent/broken spring, but Im not sure if it can be accessed externally on those boxes.

Gday, I'm a massive novice at this but I assume you mean the transmission fluid?

No, gearbox oil. Transmission fluid is for an auto.
