Hi, i i own a 2009 D22 Navara and im having problems with the diff, i was just wondering if anyone has heard of diff problems or even had diff problems? Thanks.

it makes a clunking sound and its like the rear diff is locked when i drive forward and reverse at slow speeds with a turned steering wheel, the only problem is nissan claim they have never heard of this problem and its because i towed a heavy load, i have never towed or been off road.

Towed a heavy load. Lol, show them the brochure saying it has a towing capacity of 2800kg.

The thai built D22's are known for what your describing, drop the diff oil out and replace it.

I remember someone saying that the factory fills them with open diff oil when they should have LSD fluid.

Dave.

That's funny, I have never heard nissan say "we have never heard of this problem before"!

diff can be fairly tight but it won't cause a clunk noise. my tires squeal going around slow tight corners after i changed the LSD oil. its still a fairly tight LSD.

i'm not sure if 2009 will have the troublesome c200k diff the laters ones come out with. first of the common rail D22's still had the same old diffs as the 3 litre models.

:sarcastic: your a funny man !

well its been 3 weeks since my ute went in for this problem and nissan are still deciding what to do, the thing i dont understand is if its a problem throughout the current D22 range why dont they recall all of them? thank you all for your great help and support.

recalls are generally only for safety concerns. Nissan have a history of head in the sand approach with dealing with faulty designed product. they will just fix it while its under warranty and tough luck if your out of warranty.

be interesting to see WHY these are failing as the current D22 is not overly powerful.

hi, just an update on my diff, apparantly my diff was not properly assembled from factory and the LSD plates came loose not allowing the diff to function properly, nissan rebuilt the whole diff and has been good so far for the week i have had it back.

I bought a new D22 in April. From the start had problems with diff. Grinding, clicking noises and clear resistance. It was especially evident when reverse parking and turning in those tight MEL concrete car parks. Took it to Nissan and had the diff replaced the same day, no questions asked. And no paperowork to document it either... lol.
Didn't get any answers to my questions on what the problem was, they said they didn't look, just replaced the diff. Make out of it what you will, but it seems that there is a definite problem with the D22 rear diff and Nissan wants to keep it low profile.

Thai build Navara

Thanks Dave,
so are you or anybody else aware of any other design/manufacturing problems with the D22 other than the diff?
It would be good to know what else to expect fail...

Na other then the diff I really haven't heard any other faults with the Thai built D22's.

Dave.

They sure do. I had the same problem. Nissan Australia will not return my phone calls, letters or emails. I have had mine fixed but I want to know what was wrong with it and what they've done to rectify the problem. I want to be safe in the knowledge that if I am cruising down the M1 at 110kmh my diff isn't going to jam up and send me spinning into a tree.....

nissan pulled my diff out sent it to a diff specialist to see what was wrong with it, found the problem and fixed it within a week, at first i was a bit worried because they were claiming that they had never heard of any diff problems and then said i had over towed but it ended up working out good, and they turned out to be very helpful.

scotty - I think it's 100mm, and it's welcome space too!

AJZ - lucky you, mine was off the road for 7 weeks!!! The guys at the dealership were great but as for Nissan Oz - stonewalled me totally and did not want to know about it.

yeah 100mm extra is very welcome, and 7 weeks thats a pretty poor effort, although like u said the guys at the dealership were very good but it did take 3 weeks for nissan oz to decide what they wanted to do, but its all fixed now and hopefully nothing else goes wrong.

Well I'm not looking forward to sending mine to Nissan if its gonna be outta action for as long as 7 weeks. My rear diff is making noises at low-medium speed cornering and also the inside wheel slips on corners.

The only other thing I've come across on Thai built d22 is the bodymount rubber fall out. Poor material mainly.
