Just had my oil and filter changed at Nissan Geraldton (not service) cost me $330. They used Nissan oil $150 for the oil and give me a couple of litres left over. Most expensive oil change in my life(and I'm old). Glad I'm just passing through, sure won't be back. That was after they quoted me $220 when I booked the job.

It sounds like daylight robbery.

I wonder how much they pay the apprentice who did the oil change ?

Thats about right for "nissan oil" from the dealer,
dont know about the rest of the costs though.

Synthetic oils vary from $50-$80 per five Ltr container aftermarket.

Krankin is right it's about right for the product, and the worst problem is the further out of the city you get the more these arseholes charge for such stupid things and they only have to justify it by making sure customers still come through the door. If they began loosing customers they'd refine their charges but when you're not in the city and have competition knocking on your door the price isn't hard to justify.

I only live 2 hours from the city and my local dealers pricing for things is stupid compared to the prices others have quoted from city and suburb dealers and if it wasn't for my mate doing all my servicing I'd be better off traveling to the burb's for every service rather than trust the local guy. So when it comes to places like Geraldton I feel for the buggers who have such little choice.

They only wanted to know who quoted the price. Whoever answered the phone when I made the booking. But they didn't care anyway. They haven't got a clue about customer service. Except for the poor kid who had to deal with me.

A mechanic I use to go to charged me $440 for a 40,000km service and putting in my torsion bars and installed my pyro probe.

However he closed the business down due to health reason's, I felt bad and aked him 3 times if he had his figures right.

Best mechanic I have ever dealt with and one of the nicest blokes I have ever meet.

Dave.

That's about the standard price in country WA for an oil change and filter. Expect the same when you need to have a DPF forced burn done.

I love Nissan:suicide2:

i just paid $240 to drop the oil and change the filter (5000km service)... i was a little shocked to be honest.

Unfortunately it's not just Nissan. Toyota quoted a mate $700 for the forced regen of the DPF on a Coaster, he's since been approved by Toyota in Melbourne to do the regen for his own buses and it cost him a trip to Melbourne for the privileged, nothing more. Unlike the Nav however if the auto regen doesn't work properly there is no dropping a gear and picking up the revs the driver assisted regen must be done while the vehicle is in park.

Sounds about right to me....if you have an auto D40 that is as you MUST use fully synthetic oil to avoid losing your warranty....and avoid having your DPF clag up often. My dealer uses Shell Helix Ultra fully synthetic oil and I have taken to carrying 10 ltrs of this with me when travelling on longer trips. In fact when I rang ahead to Alice Springs last year to book in for a service at one of the local 4x4 specialists he even asked if I had my own oil with me.

Hopefully a DPF forced burn will NEVER be required. I've had the light come on once and that was after 2-3 days of travelling at <40kph when travelling from Punmu to Warburton. Long way from a dealer but thankfully I'd read the book and as I couldn't attain and maintain speeds anywhere near 80kph I locked her in Low Low and kick the revs above 2000 rpm - the light extinguished after approximately 10 minutes and all has been good since.

I had an oil and filter change done at Unley Nissan in Adelaide and cost me $135.00

This doesn't sound right. The oil alone should be priced between 80 and 120 bucks. Then filter at around 30 bucks + labour. I would check to ensure they used the proper synthetic oil or you will face problems down the track. Especially if you have an auto, and therefore DPF.

Adelaide change

Just got the account out from Nissan at Adelaide. The oil used is quoted as 20w50 and the cost was $45 , labour $44, total=$136-60. I asked about the oil and they said they have it in bulk, its ok as long as it has C3 included in its clasification.

Can't imagine too many dealer workshop that don't buy oil in bulk, they'd be forever chucking out 5 litres bottles if they didn't. But even in bulk that's about the cheapest oil I've ever seen from a dealership. Ask your dealer if he ships interstate I could make a fortune selling it at that price to dealers down here.

thats why i do my own oil and filter changes...
$80.00 delivered to my door,,,air oil and fuel filter... and brand name stuff as well

Just talking to another Nissan service man and he said the 20w50 oil they used was the wrong oil so they have either put the wrong oil in or written the wrong oil on the account.
Did about 5000km towing with it and no problems so couldn't have been too bad.

If only it had been vegetable oil you could be cooking chips with all that driving.

The DPF is the bit that requires the different oil so if you've got a DPF maybe there is a reason to go and kick the dealers arse (I can't remember the recommended specs for DPF oil but someone here will read back and tell you) but without a DPF and already half way to your next service I probably wouldn't be too worried right now.
