Is an earth required ?

Hey fellas,I'm just about to install the ballasts for my HID spotties before I take my Navara to the auto electricians for him to connect up.

To the ballasts need to be earthed,or can I just put them anywhere ?

They shouldn't they will use the earth that runs into them. Mine are not earthed and they work fine.
