Can anyone help/inform/redirect me?

I have a 2005 D22 2.5d sport with a steering wheel that has easily 5mm of play in it - but not when turning, but so as it can be pulled out and pushed back in.

I've tried to look for a similar topic here, but come up with nothing, although I'll happily take it on the chin if someone has already addressed this.

Basically what I would like to find out is...

Is this normal?

If it is I can leave it alone. If not, is it something that needs looking at? or do they all end up that way?

They all have play in the steering as they run a steering box and not a rack and pinion set up.

Its the way older style 4wds were designed. They are stronger then rack and pinion to.

Thank you very much Dave. =o)

I will duely leave it alone (and inform my garage it's normal - they were the ones that drew my attention to it, not being the kind of person that drives by hanging off the wheel and pulling on it)

If it has excessive play you can tighten the steering box by adjusting it on top of the box.

Download the manual and it will show you how to do it.

Dave.
