travelling on highway towing caravan all water just dumped in large pool
after towing home filled with water drove to workshop and pressure tested no loss of pressure or water .has anyone got any ideas?it is a d22 turbo diesel manual

cheers phil

there was water running everywhere on the side of the road when i pulled and radiator empty
front of van wet with coolant as well
cheers phil

That's a real strange one.

Is there any sign of roughly where the fluid came out? Have a look around the overflow bottle, it's possible that the spring in the radiator cap lifted and allowed the fluid to exit through the bottle.

If it pressure tested ok then that's the only thing I can think of - pressure test would have been done at normal operating temp (or lower) and when you're towing, the temp will go higher.

Without seeing it I'm stumped. I think if it's under warranty it ought to go back to Nissan, or take it to a radiator specialist.

Wait a sec ... got an ultraviolet light? If I remember correctly, they put a special dye in the coolant so that it glows brightly in UV light. That might help reveal where the leak is.

has been at dealers for 2 days hasnt lost a drop and holding pressure
had a thought maybe those stupid spring hose clamps coulb be losing tension when warm and not holding hose firm enough with the amount of water on road after stopping in such a short time it looked either a hose burst or radiator had split that amount couldnt physically come out of overflow that quick
cheers phil

picked up from dealer today after 8 days they had it got half way home bloody thing overheated again. they claim to have replaced thermostat but after looking still had old gasket and bolts not touched . very pissed off. going back tomorrow.talk about stuffing holidays. if not sorted tomorrow takinf to fair trading as it is under warranty

man thats fkd! i would be raging!

i know its under warranty but if it was me id be replacing all factory hose clamps with screw head ring clamps

i have a feeling its something simple...something so confusing usually turns out to be stupidly simple...

Excellent news, Phil.

It's very strange that they pressure-tested the old radiator and it passed. That's what threw all of us off the track.

I would have to say the mechanics didnt do the "pressure test" properly lol. all of us couldnt be that dumb founded :sarcastic:

sure did they gave me old thermostat yeah i think they stuffed me around hoping i would go away .but i didnt work anyway alls well that ends well. thanks for your assistance guys
cheers phil
