Exhaust expansion popping noises ????

Have noticed lately that when i turn off the ignition my exhaust muffler gives off a popping noise ( a bit like a hammer tap) which my guess is due to expanding and contracting due to heat.

Does anyone else seem to have this problem or is it just my exhaust requesting an upgrade? or even an early warning for something sinister?

yep mine also makes a metallic ringing popping noise a few minutes after I've turned it off.

could be waste gate shutting its valve?

haven't heard a muffler do it but the exhaust manifold of the D22 does it on hot days especially when worked hard.
