I decided it was time to get creative and fit up the uhf so i made a roof console. I took these photos before i covered it although i did modify it a bit with the jigsaw first. I will put up photos of it finished and in the car tomorrow, its a bit dark outside now!

Looks interesting, wish I could be arsed making my own but I'm in the middle of making a new toolbox/battery box and with all the other jobs I've got on atm I'm going to run out of time before September to hand make everything so it looks like ARB are going to get the dollars for this one.

Its all fitted up and looks great i think. I made the front where the radio goes a bit shallower before i covered it and now its proportioned a lot better and looks right.

The front is screwed into a block i had to put up in where the map lights were, i put some plasitc thingo's [i dunno there proper name] into existing holes to screw into. The rear mounting was a bit harder as i had to drop the roof lining down to find the cross spar in the roof ,i marked it and did my measurements from there, the worry was a self tapper going through the roof but i managed to aviod that. Its rather scary taking a drilling the holes though.

Isn't there already two holes you can screw into in the center of the roof?

Well that goes against what Outback suggest, they suggest their consoles fit the two screws the front lights are held in with and there is two holes already put in there by Nissan which the rear of the console mounts to, apart from running cables they claim you don't even have to remove the roof liming because the console fits exact to all the holes. Might have to look into this further because I was told the Outback console is a 10 min fit.

Mmmm, on the D22 they might be a 10 min fit, as I have the instructions showing the step by step install, and they do fit into the existing holes, no rooflining mods needed.

D40 on the other hand, who knows. But as for 10 min fit anyway, for me would be more like a couple of hours, cutting wiring, double checking etc etc etc.

I spoke to both ARB and Outback and they both reckon the fitting is the same in both the D22 and the D40 and without taking cables into account it's a 10 min fit for both without removing the roof lining. Providing the holes they refer to are actually there I can see it being a 10 min fit but if the holes aren't there I can see it being more annoying.

Do you have the measurements for this? I am doing a full length console and can’t find a way to mount in the centre of the roof through the support bar
