here is my d21 dual cab. I've had it for about 12 months now and am planning on giving it a new lease on life.
It's led a bit of a neglected life over the past few years.
since i've had it i've replaced the clutch and pressure plate, rear shackle bushes, gearbox mount, tailshaft centre bearing as well fix a whole pile of bodgey wiring surrounding the stereo and speakers and headlights.
Scraped off old bubbled window tint that i could't see sh*# through.
And a basic service that obviously hadn't been done for ages.

Exterior wise i'll be replacing both guards.drivers door and tailgate, repairing some rust over the wheelarch in the tray, straightening out a few other minor dings and giving her a fresh coat of paint. It's currently rolling on a set of (ugly) prado 17" steelies which will be getting changed very soon.
Mechanicaly it's pretty good but will get an exhaust and intake upgrade.
Suspension is old and sloppy so will be replaced but not sure what with yet.

Thanks for reading i'll update as i go
craig

fitted a set of sunraysia's with 235/85/16 hankooks and got rid off the prado 17's that where on it.
Made a massive difference to stability and handling as well as giving a handy increase in ground clearance.
As well as making it look like a proper 4wd !
The offset of the prado rims that where on it was totally wrong for a navara so glad to see them go.
Next up will be some suspension upgrades and replacement of some worn steering components.

Good start cwolf. Keep at it mate. They make a great budget fourby

yeah mate budget is the name of my game, it's my first fourby so don't want to spend too much on it. I'll be able to keep the cost at a reasonable level seeing as i'll be doing all the work myself.
She's already proven herself to be a very capable off roader whilst following a couple of much better equipped later model patrols :) so i'll be looking forward to see how she goes with some mods.

And yeah all the tailgate is good for is scrap. it's definately on the 'to be replaced' list.

looks much better with the new rims mate, those prado rims made it look silly !

yeah they did aye ! and the best thing was i sold em for $150 which paid for the other tires and i already had the rims which i got for free ages ago.
basicly only cost me the price of getting them fitted and balanced :victory:
made a big difference off road as well as on road but i really gotta do the suspension next she's a bit soggy.

i've ordered a 2" ironman lift kit and will hopefully be fitting it this weekend and
testing it out.
Also fitted my uhf and spotlights and repaired the headlight wiring
that a previous owner butchered.

here's the new ironman kit ready to go in
.everything looked good only thing missing was instructions . . .
Didn't bother me but i'm sure anyone with limited experience wanting to have a go
would have liked some.

and now installed.!
Fairly straight forward job only had one problem which was the old torsion bars where seized up in the adjusters and took alot of work to get out.
Raised the rear by 40mm and the front 55mm with quite alot of adjustment left on the torsion bars.
On road driving is a massive imoprovement with heaps sharper steering response and a massive reduction
in body roll.
Rear feels a little too stiff but once the springs settle in should be good, couple of loads of wood should do it.
Going out 4wding this weekend so we'll see how she goes.

so we went out and put the nav through it's paces with the new suspension
and it passed with flying colours :)
the extra clearance meant i could take a different line to what i've taken previously making it much easier to get through some of the rough stuff.
only problem i had was a couple of u bolt nuts came loose, but was an easy fix.
ride quality was better as well so all in all very happy with the ironman gear
:top::top:

picked up an ARB steel bar from wreckers for $80 !
Not sure what it came off but it's the right dimensions and will only need a couple of mods to fit.
Will also be getting modified to accept a winch.

heres a few pics of modifying the bar for fitting a winch.
first task was to cut holes and fit some indicators.
then cutting out the top of the bar to make room for the winch, drilling mounting holes and cutting out the hole for the cable to go through.

too bad your not east coast, i would love to relieve you of your old bar. My nav feels very naked without one =(

yeah the old freight cost nails the feasability of it aye.
it's a good strong alli bar too, had a bloke in falcon wagon change lanes next me with out lookin first. . . he had about $1500 worth of damage and i just got to keep a bit of his paint :)

okay so due the discovery of a fair amount of rust in my chassis in some rather difficult to repair areas i've decide to do a bit of a rebuild on the old girl.
(judging by the look underneath i reckon it's been living on the beach.)
i have located a good chassis in the form of a complete dual cab.
it was a farm hack so has never seen salty beachs but the body has rusted up pretty bad making it the perfect donor.
not sure when i'll take it off the road to get started on it but needs to be soon.
plan at this stage is whilst it's dissassembled is to give it a full panel and paint, replace all the worn steering joints, fit a set of seats and door trims out of a d22(already located), replace the cracked dash top, rebuild the ka24 engine with a few performance mods and probably a stack of other things along the way.
here's an example of my last rebuild respray effort the nav will be done in the same colour.

Taking a slightly different approach to rebuilding my nav.
Missed out on the other wreck I was gonna buy but have
Located another.
This one has a td27t with less than 100 thou on it so will
getting the diesel conversion.
As well as the panel, paint and the Aforementioned list.
