Looks good..... I would have thought though that 30 microns was a little too big for Common rail diesels. On my D4D I've got a Racor 2Micron filter as I to am scared at the potential costs of getting a batch of dirty fuel... The other thing I had to consider was the flow rate as they need to have a high flow rate to.

What does the factory filter, filter down to?

Thats a good idea to have a very fine filter put inline..however it should come after the 30um unit. What specs did they provide for this housing /filter ?

good work mate

this is exactly the smae kit minus the bracket that i have fitted to my d22. have they resolved the 150 micron filter problem yet? Alan took mine out and told me not to use it cause it didnt fit properly and he was gonna sort the problem out. i puchased mine from the 4wd show a couple of years back and it cost me i think $198 full kit. ran it inline with the standard filter and it works a treat. has saved my car once already which is a plus. 30micron filter on the aftermarket and 10-15micron on the genuine filter. I am just about to change the filter as it has done atleast 25000kms on this filter already and the genuine unit only recently got changed.

I can't rmember the Racor model number, but it filters down to 2micron + the filtering paper used by Racor blocks 99% of water as well. It has a high flow rate that meets Manufacturer's specs. The OEM filter filters down to 2micron as well so I've been told. So, hopefully no dirty fuel should ever get through. I'm currently in the process putting a 2nd fuel filter in series in the new D22 ZD30 I just picked up as a added protection. It also has a built in water trap with a glass bowl to see any dirty fuel or water.

another way to protect your system is Fuel Doctor additive. i ahve just started using it cause i know my injectors are starting to become blocked after getting shithouse fuel economy. ive used it in half a tank of fuel and i can already feel that the injectors are cleaning themselves. meaning i can feel that i have gained power and also that i will be getting my better economy back. this product breaks down the water into such a fine micron that it actually burns with the diesel and is proven all over the place. even big big 600hp boat motors which are more subject to water then our cars.

have to say its well worth the 25ml per tank fill you have to add or as they say 25ml per 100litres of fuel. but still use the 25ml even in 70L

Yeh I done the initial shock treatment. Used 200ml then next tank using 50ml the 25ml each tank after. I was told for each 100000km you have on the motor is how many shock treatments you should do. So for a motor with 325000km its 250ml for the first 3tanks then 25ml for the fourth tank.

Yeh I'm not expecting it to make huge difference to the car. Maybe try and fix my fuel economy and keep they fuel injectors clean and all the system tidy.

i know that supercheap sell it and Queensland Diesel Spares. may not be any help to you either but you must have some sort of diesel specialist mob around you?

Sorry for the late reply, i take it you are talking about the "FUEL DOCTOR" additive.

I bought mine from westend diesel in Sydney which isnt much use to you.

The best i can do is give you the details on the bottle, Hopefully they will tell you where you can get it.

EDIT: i just had a look at the web site and it has a store locator, just type in you post code, it looks like there are hundreds of places who stock it

Good luck, let us know how you get on, it may help someone in your neck of the woods.

cheers mate just dropped them an email see how we go.

To install the unit inc the bracket, you will need to find the 6mm threaded holes on the inner guard on the passenger side of the car in between the ABS and the firewall.

Once you find the holes you can bolt on the bracket

Once thats done, select the position for where you want the fuel lines, you will see on the filter body there are four holes, you can choose any of these for the fuel lines, there is no set pattern as the kit comes with two fittings and two plugs. I chose the left and right front holes for the fuel and the back ones got the plugs.

Hey, im about to install this filter on my d40 just a couple of questions?? it looks in your photo that you have both your fuel lines on the fuel out on the filter, should you have one on the in aarow and one on the out for it to work?
After you installed it, did you have to reset anything or just sit there pumping the primer on the filter to bleed it through then it works fine? thanx Clint

ok cool thanx, if i look at the top of mine there are arrows for in and out and if you put both fuel lines on the front one's it looks as though it will run straight through without filtering. I took a pic with a pen through it so you get the idea. If its the same you may want to double check. Could be a costly error..

I was up talking to some Diesel Mechanics at Caboolture and they indicated not to run 2 filters in series as this could effect the performance due to the added restriction of the extra filter/fuel line.....
I would have imagine if this was the case that it would be hard to pickup/notice and would only really be able to be properly verified via a Dyno run.... ??
He also said if u want a 2nd filter that a "pusher pump" down at he fuel tank would be benefical...

What's peoples thoughts on this as I've got my 2nd inline filter all mounted and ready to be connected up when I get around to replacing the OEM filter....

Looks good guys... just wondering how hard is it to see the bowl and drain it and change the filter in that location??
