Fitted some Alpine 6x9's yesterday and modified the door cards to fit the Alpine grilles over them. Sound heaps better

Hey all havent updated in ages. Nav is still peachy :D no problems at all still. I just keep her meticulously maintained with diff and trans flushed and fluids completely changed every 30,000kms, major service every 10,000kms (oil, oil filter, air filter, cooling system flush, tyre rotation, inspections and a bit of grease here and there, and just an oil and filter change every 5,000kms.

Plus regular cleaning of the MAF censor, ECU reset, under the hood belt inspections etc etc. She never gives me trouble!

And i just fitted a towbar and bought a camper trailer and took it away this weekend.

Also, just added a 12,000 Grande winch from 4WD Suapcentre.

I don't care what anyone says, cheap winches are a better buy than an expensive one.

Crack the cheapies open, service and regrease them, check the electrical joins in the control box, seal it properley and pull 10m of the synthetic rope out twice a month under free spool, switch it to engaged, and winch it back in under tension to keep the gears moving.

The Grande 12,000lb pulls like a bloody freight train. The wireless control looks like a piece of poo, but i'll keep both remotes in the cabin anyway.

About to do a HD strut and spring upgrade on the front. Dobinsons most likely.
 
Good stuff, I went Lovell shocks dobinson coils. After the bushes failed on my first set of dobinsons
 
Dobinsons still going well. Going EFS full HD struts and springs up front now. Have chatted to a few blokes locally that run EFS gear on their cruisers etc doing serious offroad tracks and are happy with their gear so might give it a try.

Just fitted a Safari Snorkel after nearly stupidly drowing the ute in 2 feet of water a month ago.
 
Hey all,

Haven't updated for a while. The D40 now has full HD front struts by Fulcrum (Formula). I took a risk as i hadn't heard much about them, but it paid off, they are fantastic.

Aside from that, have redone the hot side cooler piping from cooler all the way to the turbo instead of just to the baffle. With a few other bits fitted, i filled a tank of BP Ultimate from empty and spent a night up at Eildon and did some maths along the way:

20lb @ 2800revs

650km to a tank with 33's, steel bullbar, canopy, full fluids and one person in the car.

Mods done: 3" dump pipe into a 2.5" exhaust no mufflers, full cold and hot side piping, new Safari snorkel, standard paper filter (i don't like those oil-able jobbies, the oil stuffs your MAFS) and re-set the ECU.

Whistles off it's head, great fuel economy (i do a major every 5000kms myself, very anal but worth it) and she gets the best of everything when it's done.

Also needed new front swaybar links, so i took the whole swaybar off before i made the trip to Eildon. Personally, i love the ride without it. Instead of banging stiffly over bumps, it moves alot more freely up front obviously from having no swaybar.

Next month, new medium duty rear leaves. Currently have comfort 2" leaves with load helpers, but i want to tear those out in favour of some Dobinsons rear leaves to go with the Dobinsons rear shocks and a new full bush kit.

Also fitted up a USB volt meter in the dash that looks factory and now have a dash mounted Lenovo tablet that runs HEMA maps, TOM TOM GO and a few other goodies to reference when on trips so i can put way points in for fishing spots etc and it's running off an aftermarket 12V socket i fitted in the dash and wired straight to the battery (fused etc obviously)
 
Been busy in the last few weeks upgrading lots of bits on the D40. Complete updated list of gear below:

Engine:

Provent catch can
Safari Snorkel
Airbox to turbo pipe / hot and cold side pipe upgrades
EGR blank

Exhaust:

3" dump into a 2.5" all the way to the back no mufflers.

Suspension / lift:

3" suspension + 1" body lift
Fulcrum HD struts and springs with 25mm alloy strut spacers machined down to 15mm
Extended upper ball joints,
Superpro shock mount bushes front and rear,
Dobinsons HD leafs and shocks rear,
Superpro leaf bushes,
Swaybar removed

Tyres:

33" Dick Cepek FCII's on standard STX 16's


Everything else:

Snugtop smooth finish canopy,
Opposite Lock deluxe bar,
Every bulb throughout the car replaced with an LED equivalent (except headlights which are white halogens so as to not piss too many people off)
22" cheapo lightbar,
Front recovery points,
Grande winch (currently stuffed so it's in my garage waiting for new solenoids)
Dual 2.5M awnings
Engel 40L fridge / slide in tub with dedicated 12V system running a Century Deep cycle marine battery
ARB rear beaver panel
Boost gauge
Volt gauge
USB charging point in dash
Hard mounted tablet holder on dash running a Lenovo tablet with root access wiped clean only runs TOMTOM GO, Hema Navigator and TOPO maps. I rate the cheap tablets once you get root access on them and wipe them clean.
Aftermarket larger diff housing cover (complete replacement not a bolt on cover, holds alot more oil)
Cut and lifted bullbar to suit the bodylift

On Thursday i am ordering:

Superpro adjustable UCA's so i can get near perfect camber adjustment to suit the lift and tyres

Future: Sliders, front and rear diff rebuild with shorter gears, maybe a diff drop kit.

ALL work done by me except tyres and bullbar fitting. I also do a major service every 5000kms which is way overkill, but considering when you do it yourself, $270 every 5000kms is **** all to pay to keep your driveline in great shape.
