Hi Everyone
My D40 2010 after the 130k service 2 days later on the freeway put foot down to overtake (was only doing 80kph) loss of power & into limp mode. 4 days later again doing 80kph went to overtake and you guessed it loss of power. Both occassions restarted car and all ok. Both times occurred when accelerating to overtake doing 80 in a 100 zone. From what I've read here it is most likely the scv. Would you guys agree? What should it cost to have it replaced by Nissan? Since its a known fault although porbably not acknowledged should Nissan replace it for free!!!!!!
Thanks
Dee

I think after 130ks they would argue it's a wear-out scenario, not a known fault. Based on the cost of the original part, I would imagine somewhere around the $320-ish-plus mark to have it replaced by Nissan.

If you're not particularly mechanical minded, maybe you have a friend that can help, by all accounts it's not a very difficult job.

Welcome to the forum.

I absolutely agree that it's likely to be the SCV. Try cleaning it first - several people have had success with doing that. $3 plus a little time compared to $240 plus a little time ... I know which I'd rather do.

Hi guys
Thanks for your responses and no I'm definitely not mechanically minded. Armed with this information I think I will give my Nissan dealer a call & see what they can do. Wish me luck.
Cheers Dee

to crack

check the fuel bowl it canhave the finest crack in it causes loss of fuel pressure we have d40 2010 same problem

My 2008 D40 has began to have a similar problem. It seems to lack power and won't accelerate at times. I can lift off the accelerator and then press down again and it is OK, but it does recur. I have a windboost fitted and thought it was that going bad. I tried different settings and it seems to fix it for a while but then it comes back. I was going to take it off but couldn't figure out the holding clip at the time, I felt all the connectors, they seemed tight and after that it worked fine. Coming home today the problem occured a few times but lifting off the gas stops it (til the next time).

I'd monitor your boost levels. My own car started doing this, turbo boost would be limited to around 6psi if I pushed on the throttle too hard, and if I brought it on gently the turbo would boost up properly. Was the journal bearings on the way out - a new turbocharger from Forefront Industries fixed it real fast.

I would just like to thank everyone who has posted info regarding "loss of power".
I have been at this for just under 2 years on and off. Mine only had loss of power taking off from stop lights. A quick restart fixed it and off I would go.
First replaced SCV, worked great for one month then back again. Tried loosening fuel cap, worked sometimes, usually a restart.
Mechanic reticulated the fuel pump, worked for a month then back again.
Off to a diesel specialist and he said injectors were OK after being told by Nissan dealer they would need replacing.
Diesel specialist said rail pressure was down and first job was to replace fuel pressure switch on common rail. If this didn't work replace fuel pump. Had switch replaced and is OK now for 3 months. Diesel guy said pressure was still down a bit but should work for awhile. Fingers crossed.

Unexplained loss of POWER

Just to add onto the comments posted earlier today 24/02/2017 regarding "loss of POWER".
Have had this same problem for the last 2 years as well, on and off too with my Nissan Navara D40 bought in the year 2014. Had the problem fixed and only would last for a few months and it starts all over again.
Have taken the truck a couple of times to the dealers here in Fiji and they say that this needs changing , that needs changing after the changing and pay a few hundred dollars the problem come again.
They have also done an inspection by fitting a machine to detect the problem, but still no answer from the machine, and the problem comes and goes.
Have to stop engine and restart then power comes on for only a short period of time and then its powerless again.
Wanting to buy the New Version, but having second thoughts.

Thanks Margaret.

STX 550 Transmission Loss

I have an stx 550. This loss of power is a major safety issue and typically of nissan they choose to ignore it, I was passing a road train just pulled in front of him and lost the transmission lugging a two tonne caravan behind with no power and nowhere to go. I was fortunate nothing was coming and was able to cross over to the other side of the road to the only accessible clearing in miles as an on coming road train approached. I was in selective mode in 5th gear I tried shifting into all positions to no avail. When I got to the clearing I switched off the engine restarted and I had the transmission back. I was of the opinion that it may have been a software problem because I have had other experiences where you go to take off and it will hold you under 30kph under it decides to let you go faster. What ever the cause of the problem it could lead to a catastrophic safety issue and nissan don't want to know about it

Guys i have the same problem with my vehicle replace scv reset ecu every thing. After few km stop on the side of road.to make u turn. No power d40

How's the boost from the turbo? Is the turbo making any sounds? Faults that I've experienced that caused boost loss:

* Bad vacuum hoses
* Faulty boost control solenoid
* Failing turbocharger

Your 2014 model is likely to have an electronic boost control, some of these were faulty and replaced by Nissan (not sure if it was a recall). After replacement (where needed) I've not heard of any problems with this item (sits on top pf the turbocharger). Check its electrical connections first, pressure-washing the engine bay can cause issues like this.

And yes, I've seen Nissan dealer pressure wash my own engine bay even knowing that it shouldn't be done.

I'd check the boost levels first, bluetooth ELM327 OBD adapter and a free Android app will get that info very quickly.

Hi guys, just found this thread, sorry its so common but its good to know I am not alone!! I have had the same low power issue with my 2012 R51, I replaced the SCV with the correct denso part but after a day the issue is back. Hopefully opening the fuel cap helps but really looking for what else it may be?

Once I installed the SCV i did the foot dance to reset the ECU (i think its called..?!?) but thinking maybe I didn't do that well? Does anyone have any updates on fixes for this situation??

If you've replaced the SCV then forget the other things like opening the fuel cap. It's likely your problem lies elsewhere, so we need to diagnose it separately. If you want to do a full ECU reset then forget the foot dance, there's another way to do it.

1) Get your radio's PIN and write down any tripmeter information that you might use.
2) Remove one of the battery leads (doesn't matter which, if one's off there's no circuit so no power).
3) Press the brake pedal for a few seconds. Don't get an assistant do it - whoever undoes the battery terminal must do it (because there's an amount of time involved in this as well).

Reset is complete, reconnect the battery.

Assuming then that your fuel pump is ok you'd want to be following your car while the problem is experienced, so that you can see what colour smoke might be coming out. There are many possibilities, from a dirty MAFS to a failing turbo, but including things like bad BCS, leaking vac lines, blocked intercooler, faulty EGR valve ... we need to know a little more about what sets it off too.

Thanks Old tony, so the strangest thing has since occurred.

I ended up taking it to the place I bought the denso part from so they could plug the computer into it and reset it. I drove off it went straight into limp mode and the engine light went on...great! I went back about 20 mins later hoping it would sort itself and it didn't...then they re-did it and as i left the same thing happened, I kept driving. They said the engine light was an EGR code, but they needed the car to investigate further?

When I stopped I did the foot dance again and it cleared the engine light and seemed ok, I was waiting at any turn for the limp too come back but for the rest of the day it was fine. It seemed here and there to not be as smooth, but I've also never been so conscious of how its running or sounding so it could be exactly the same for all I know.

I had a 200km trip with my 20ft caravan on the back the next morning and to say I was shi**ing myself would be an understatement...I didn't even tell the wife we might not get there.. eek. It never skipped a beat and drove fine all the way there and back?!?

All I can think is that I did something slightly different with the foot dance this time? Fingers crossed its fixed, ill post an update if it comes back!

Just happened to me 4 times. 2012 st. I'll try loosening the fuel cap and see what happens. Only happened on freeway so far. Nissan service in Frankston absolute rubbish. Didn't even check my brake pads properly. Only one side and then assumed other side ok. Changed it myself.
