cheers,
I am getting a set of D22 STR rims tonight, for my D22.
I want to run the same Tyre size, so i bought two to test fit with.
Going to have them put on the rims tomorrow while im fitting my 2' suspention lift.
Hopefully they fit, then ill pickup another 2 to complete the set.

Was the spacer required?

Without the spacer the tyres would rub on the chassis near where the radius rod mounts are.
There wasn't enough adjustment in the steering lock stops to combat it so for the Terrano yeah spacers where needed.
I wouldn't envisage any problems on your d22 though.

Made a couple of minor improvements lately.
It's no secret that diesel terrano's suffer from over heating issues, especially autos.
First mod I performed was the external trans cooler, improvement but not enough.
A new water pump was fitted as the old one started to leak, the viscous hub is integral to the water pump and comes as a single unit.
It stopped the leak but no improvement.
I deemed the standard fan as insufficient so out with grinder and a cutting disc and off with the fan and hub.
This mod was required to make room to fit in the 2x 12" fans.
Big improvement, still gets hot when pushed hard especially on the beach but now when I stop the fans pull the temp back down again at a reasonable pace unlike the stock fan.
The radiator is looking fairly ordinary so will be getting replaced.
The stock radiator that's in it is a 2 core copper/ brass unit, the replacement one is going to be a Terrano II unit that has plastic tanks and an aluminium 2 row core which is reportedly as efficient as a 3 copper/brass that I was going to get made up.
And at half the price $330 vs $660 it's a no brainier.
Hopefully that will be the end of the heating issues.

Also swapped out the old shocks for a set of ironman foam cell shocks.
Recranked the torsion bars to compensate for the weight of the winch and bar, but they'll be getting replaced with some ironman units when I get time.
Had to do some repairs on the rear diff after filling it up with muddy water, breather tube needs extending.
Pulled the center out and replaced the pinion bearing cleaned out all the gunk and refitted it with fresh oil and it works better than ever now.
Whilst the diff was apart I replaced the rear brake pads and fixed the hand brake up. They where full of mud too.
Lastly had to replace the headlights as they where full of muddy water(yep a pattern forming there, ilike mud)
So I took the opportunity to upgrade them to HID.
Waaaaay better than the candles nissan provided.

Funny you should say that, mine boiled yesterday.

Yep that's exactly what I've done.

I replaced mine with a new Koyorad, aluminium core / plastic top tanks and it made a big difference but it still doesn't totally love it. Changed to a 88 degree thermostat (I think... stock D21 TD27 OEM Australian spec anyway) as well.

With the Terrano II one, since the Terrano II is based on the D22 I had always assumed the radiator wouldn't fit (too wide to go between the rail extensions) as the D22 ones are like that. Have you confirmed that the R20 ones fit? If so that opens up a world of options.

G'day dion.
I went and seen our local radiator specialist and he made a phone call
to his supplier (somewhere in the east) and it's them which made the statement
that they'll fit.
Apparently they do need some modifying to the mounts to fit but outlet are
in the right spot as the r20 had the td27 too.
I'm going to get one from them so I'll let you know how it goes.
Cheers.

Bit of an update, haven't been on much lately.
Few upgrades as of late firstly was a radiator ended up getting a full
aluminium job with a 50mm core (double the standard ) and fitted twin 12" fans.
Big improvement but still not quite there.
Picked up a stainless 2 1/2" exhaust for $150 of a wreck.
Also fitted a set of 33x12.5x15 GT savero muddies on 15x8" sunnies with -40 offset.
These have made a huge improvement and well worth the effort it took to fit them.
Fitted a set of the factory wide body flares to cover them but they're temporary till I can fit
my good ones.
Also bought a snorkel for it but haven't had time to fit it

Bit of an update.
I've done a fair bit of work to the old girl as of late,
stripped out the front end and replaced all the suspension bushes for nolethane
ones.
Replaced the front diff bushes with reinforced ones and gave her some fresh oil.
Swapped out the auto hubs for some manual ones from a pathfinder and repacked the bearings.
The factory steering setup on these are renowned for being as weak as boiled spaghetti so it went in the bin and has been replaced with the 2wd steering setup utilising a combination of D22 and D21 parts with an idler brace.
A bit more lift was desired but no one does rear coils any more than 40-50mm so i cheated and ordered a pair of Ironman jeep cherokee fronts in 2" which equates to 3" lift in the terrano :)
Also fitted a set of Kutsnake flares to cover the 33 12.5 muddies.
Drives waaaaaaay better now and still very stable on road even with 33's and 3" lift.

Awesome mate, looks great. I like the flares, but the KutSnake website only has GQ and LC flares, are they adapted from one of those or just not listed? How much $$$?

Cheers mate.
They're purpose made for d21 not sire why they're not listed.???
Normally $599 but I got for $499 whilst they where on special.
I'll check and see what the go is for Yah.

The d21 flares are listed below the cruiser ones on this Page along with the price.
Bear in mind though the flares are great but I had to modify them to fit the 33's in, I'd guess you'd get 32x11.5's in without modifying but it'd still be tight.
31x10.5's on wide offset rims should fit easily.
If anyone wants to know what mods I had to do to fit the 33's feel free to ask.
Cheers.

Thanks for the info! Wouldn't have picked them as being fibreglass from the pics, they have the look of textured ABS sheet. Good price!

Hi all bought myself a terrano today.
Got it to replace my d21 dual cab that has kicked the bucket.

Terrano is a stock as a rock 1991 2 door model with a td27t auto.
Not sure about autos but I'm gonna give it a chance to prove itself before considering swapping in a manual.
It had previously been a girls car hence the pink graphics down the side(first things to be removed ) as well as stick on chrome strips around the wheel arches(second thing to be removed).
I bought it unlicenced but it won't take much to get it ready for a roadworthy inspection.
It's got the usual tacho, speedo needle issue but it came with a replacement gauge cluster.
Also has a headlight problem caused by a faulty light switch but came with a replacement one of those too.
Only other things needed is a brake light globe and a couple of suspension bushes in the front.
Came with a brand new set of tyres, new alternator, overhauled brakes and a new exhaust.
Once she's rego'd and on the road the modifications shall begin :)

If you don't want that cluster I'd be keen:rock:

So after quite a long battle with the overheating issues it seems I found the actual culprit... Buggered head gasket.!
Removed the head to find all four pots had been leaking.
Also found masses of black gunge built up throughout the inlet tract no thanks to the good old EGR system.
I swapped the head for another low kay one that I had in my shed, took the manifold into a fabrication shop and got the egr hole and the relief valve hole welded up.
Bye bye egr
All reassembled and running great now, cooling has been significantly improved with the big test to be a run on a nice boggy beach.
Also has improved the responsiveness with full boost coming on much earlier now.
