Hi guys....done an oil change....car wont start...hold starter on for around a minute and sometimes it will try to run...... very roughly, no smoke...cant see that i have knocked any wires, was running really well never had any trouble, it is full of fuel, i do notice engine light is flashing..no response from accel pedal, any advice would be great...dont really want mr nissan to have to sort it out...help please

pull the error codes.
instructions around here somewhere.

did you do fuel filter at the same time ?

Thanks for the replies...... I have not touched fuel filter....i did just drain the water bowl tap and have found some particles in fuel....will replace filter later today....checked power at pump and can hear it buzzing at ignition on...so have been told by a pump guy that genrally means ok...i primed the fuel filter just to check pressure...i get 1 full pump then rock hard....thinking maybe change the filter prime it see how it works...the particles in fuel are black..maybe 1-2mm perhaps 20 bits in 100ml of fuel...just seems strange after an oil change and nothing was touched besides oil filter and oil that this problem arose, although i did fill it up a few hours prior high and slow speed driving for around 50klm...parked it went out got home in driveway and cactus....would expect pump to give at least a hint of trouble and at 4k to replace, unobtainium must be getting harder to repair, seriously considering sending pump off shore for repair, we lived in Asia for 6 years and got out hilux 3lt rebuilt from top to bottom for around 2k aud...that was rebuilt pump new injectors rings bearings cam and machining...

Just try jumpstarting it with another vehicle, starter or leads getting tired could cause not enough voltage to ecm, or fuel pump to let it fire, or you may have knocked the glow wire and its not glowing, check it. good luck

I bought a new battery...checked all connections...even with stuffed glow plugs it will start....i gave it a bit of start ya bastard...fired straight up, so im thinking its the pump or fuel cut soldnoid..from speaking to a guy at bosch, he has told me the pcu is rebuildable and that and fuel cut solenoid are biggest issues with the VP44, tomorrow I will hotwire the pump feed, if that works it will be pcu....also will be off to nissan tomorrow for a scan....fuel in tank has been checked...no water in filter...has to be something to do with the pump, as I understand the pcu is fuel cooled...repeated attempts to start it will cause fuel cutoff solenoid to activate or overheat the pcu board....so hopefully its just a solenoid or pcu, rather spend $500 rather than 4k, especially when jap import engines are only 3k.....

they DO NOT have a fuel cut solenoid like old style pumps.
if you hot wire it you will blow it and possibly blow the engine as well.

one of the most common pump failures for no start is the pcu board has failed.

but if it failed after changing oil its a rather unlucky coincidence.
i would look for anything you may have bumped.
check for anything else in the ute thats not working, even if its minor. someone on here had no start caused by taillights not working.

the only thing i can think of at the mo is if you bumped a bad fuel hose. sometimes they can split the ends of the hose. then it will suck air into the injection pump and it won't start.

no need to take it to nissan to read the codes. it takes about 1 minute to do it yourself.

Cheers for the replies guys...i have tried to get codes but will have another shot at it, i have triple checked fuel lines back to tank...all fuses....relay swapping will be next step, guys at nissan told me they have a fuel cut solenoid...typical, aldo I have seen a company in uk repairing pcu for pumps, so may check that out as well, i have noticed everyone i call says oh...zd30, injector pump 5k please, i have experienced issues with electrics before, mate put led brake light bulbs in his ute, no good...would start but no drive, took to 3 auto sparkys..all said ecu...dealer same, went round swapped bulbs back...good as gold, ecu was looking for resistance not finding it and not allowing drive as it thought he had no tail lights...these manufacturers need a talking too

This is bevoming like star wars...the saga continues....checked codes by flashing engine light
0104, 0407, 0707,0706,0705
I will double check thdm again....i find it strange that i got a crank angle senosr code...perhaps this is causing other codes to the pump

delete the codes, try to start it and see what codes come back up.

0104 speed sensor
0407 crank sensor
0707 injection pump timing failure (can be triggered by crank sensor failure)
0706 spill valve
0705 pump ecu

if those codes come back up i would look for something common between them. eg ground connections or a harness.

was there anything else done to the ute other than oil change ?

Thanks for the advice...I will re check codes tomorrow, delete them and try restatting and see what I get, only thing that was done was oil filter, new oil, air filter...didnt touch the fuel filter as it was done 3 weeks aho when injector seals replaced and has been running well all that time, first time it has ever given any trouble

Triple checked...still only 1 code which is spill valve....so is this telling me a new pump or is this part of the electrickery on top of the pump, i ask because I have seen the pcu repaired in england, and if it saves a few k....happy to pursue it and test it out

Further developments......noticed today after clearing codes primer pump was soft...pumped it up rock hard, tried to start and its soft again...could this be compounding the issue?

thats normal.

i would have to check but i think the spill valve is separate.

Yeah...im certain guy at nissan said there is a long and short solenoid?,,,,, would be fantastic news if it is seperate and can be replaced, mate thanks for all your replies, really appreciate your help

Thanks for the replies...... ...the particles in fuel are black..maybe 1-2mm perhaps 20 bits in 100ml of fuel...

This might be irrelevant to your problem, but also might not be. The only time I have had trouble like this (although it started, but engine light on) was dirty fuel. Threw about every code there is. Reset codes and from memory had only one or two codes to do with fuel system, for a while...after running for some time it caused all sorts of codes to reappear. To cut the story short following the codes was a bit of a wild goose chase.

Ended up the fuel was dirty. Drained the tank and it was full of black dirt. Cleaned the tank, blew out all of the lines with compressed air, changed the filter, topped up with clean fuel, reset codes and all good. No more engine light, no more codes.

Could be a longshot, but if you do no good finding the exact problem, the particles in fuel filter could be an indication. Has the filter been changed regularly?

no idea. i do know there is meant to be a few different model pumps.
best bet would be to talk to injection specialists.
