I wouldn't go 2nd hand, but that's just me. I'd be looking at fitting a locker.

That damage is quite significant! Have you worked out what caused it?

Hey Kevin, my thoughts also... I don't like the unknown !

Regards to what caused it and damage done, broken "spring plate or disc" I'm guessing -haven't pulled the diff yet. I was planning on doing it today, this weekend I'll get to it and know more..

eLocker $1'700 that's why I'm looking at rebuilding the center and a "re pack" to a heavier brake away Lb. for the LSD
Pinion and crown $550 to $1200 if needed, at 310'000 k it may be needed..
Bearings and seals $300 to $500
Have done, Set pinion to crown $200 to $300
It starts to add up , $3000 on a 03 ??? That's why I'm thinking lsd.... all depends on where that other piece of metal came from, I'm betting that bit of spring plate has chipped a tooth of the planetary gears...

I'm hearing you re the cost on a 15-16 year old car.

The wreckers here in Adelaide charge almost as much as new parts though.

Maybe try to get hold of a wrecked low K's D22 donor car yourself & just cannibalise?

You're never going to know the history of the wrecked car, but you wouldn't know the history of any 2nd hand car that you bought either!

There were some D22's that came into Aust with the incorrect diff oil in them years ago, I'm wondering if yours is one of them. We'll never know!

Ok. Mines looking a little sad, it has the slightest play in the axles too danm it- and I mean slightest but I can feel it.... Diffs out and will pull it apart today and check more.

Thinking second hand one now, may have one with low k's "160'000" ;)
If mines to past it I'll fit the second hand unit and then gather parts from Japan "got onto cheap genuine parts but they can take up to a month to arive", then ill think about a re build re pack shims etc or maybe a locker...

Has anyone seen these Torsen diff centers ? They say this is where trutrack stole their ideas from.. I'll find a link and post..

Yup, twas the spring plates and discs... I think a second hand low k's one will be a better starting point than trying to re build this old girl...

I think it's these clips that are the failing point, clip wears through then snaps allowing spring plate to move and then snap..
