Hi, what is the general life expectancy of one of these engines? New to diesel engines - thinking of taking on a 2008 D40 Auto Turbo Diesel with 300,000 on it. It has been a well maintained vehicle used for general driving and towing of a horse float once each month or so. Never off-road.

Just looking for a general indication from you experienced Navara owners!

Thanks

My own car has 320,000km, I bought it new in 2009. Have taken it off road. I've towed with it. I've driven in 50C heat and -11C cold on snow and ice. I've taken it up the Alpine Way (with a caravan) and up the Stuart Highway.

I've had some turbo issues. One turbocharger failed through age. Replaced it with a cheap one off eBay, won't do that again, that one failed. The current turbo is a genuine Honeywell Garrett.

I had some DPF issues - wrote to auggie on this forum, he fixed me up with some sensors, no more drama.

Other than that it's wear and tear items. Wheel bearings, brake pads that sort of thing.

At 323,792km my engine purrs. Never had an injector out. Have used Liqui Moly injector cleaner a few times. Replaced the SCV once (it's a small part on the fuel pump). Don't have a boost controller any more, I use a Tilix valve.

My intention is to see that many km again - and judging by the sound of the engine, I probably will.

don't be concerned about the K's, mine has 260k on it, and only replaced 2 alternator pulley bearings, 1 boost control valve, and 1 set of front discs. No timing chain issues with mine!

You know exactly the way your car has been looked after Tony, there's no guessing on what has, or hasn't been done. If you were to take a drive around the car yards & have a quick look at some cars with similar K's to yours, I seriously doubt that you'd buy any of them.

My d40 has over 330000kms we know of a escort car with 700000 which we supplied a chain kit for. My d40 has 415 psi on all 4 cylinders has less blowby than some rebuilt engines. Give it good oil and change it every 1000 litres of fuel. The first 180000k,s on our car was in mine sites as electrician ute. Has original turbo and 1 injector replaced. You need to do the timing chain radiator top tank and the heater hose update on our yd25 web site

Will be long overdue for a turbo. I just fitted 3 Melett turbo cores (to d40s) manufactured in the UK only $370 delivered and good quality. (from Turborebuild.co.uk)

I ran an 06 model for a decade, putting on 320k, the engine was running very smoothly when I sold it on, no engine, turbo, injector or chain issues apart from a head gasket around five years in. I did change the oil 9 times.

Hi guys, sorry for bringing up an old thread but it's a little relevant.

I have a 2013 D40 YD25 (Spain) with 250k on the clock, it was used solely as a Melbourne to Sydney car (proven by up to 3 months ago all Nissan services between Vic and Syd).

I don't hear the timing chain rattles (knock on wood) and all wheel bearings / alternator pulleys etc have been changed previously.

Is it a must at 300k to do the timing chain? I'm getting a little worried.

Is it something I could do myself with better than average home servicing experience? or better it goes to a pro?
