Great money spinner, number plates. I wanted to save some money and put my car's number plates (slimline) on my Navara when I sell my car. I called VicRoads and asked what it cost to transfer number plates from a cancelled rego car to a registered car; it was somewhere around the $98 mark. Ninety-eight dollars for someone to spend 15 seconds at a computer! Mining the bauxite, shipping it, refining it to aluminium, shipping it, alloying it, shipping it, stamping it and coating it with a paint, then shipping it to a VicRoads office and all the computer logistics management associated with that, then doing the same thing on a computer to assign the plates to my Navara, costs around $78. Incredible.

Have you seen the cost of plates in NSW these days. Used to be a one off fee for a norml plate 3 letters, 2 numbers and a letter that sort of spelt something out but even that now will cost you $150 a year on top of the price to have them made.....

If you want a word that will set you back $500 a year on top.....

What for I ask????

i was going to get bignav or tuffnav on green plates....but they were $500 a year.

I saw this Navara outside My local BCF today .....$$$$$$$$$

Check the plates.....

haha I'm up in the NT, and I wanted some for my business. I went in to find how much they were and if i could get what I wanted etc. The bloke behind the counter started to tell me how much of a rip off they are..... I started thinking to my self maybe I wont. He came back with the forms and from memory it was about $80 one off fee. I said that quite cheap (coming from Sydney) He said "Nar its a rip off... that's like 2 cases of beer!!" haha

I paid about $450 for mine "EQUIPT" about 6 or 7 years ago, and have only had to pay $98 to get them transferred to the Navara from my Commodore when I got it in January.

I've got WIR35 ("wires") I think they cost around $400. "Wires" because I'm in the electrical contracting/engineering industry. My mates and I have a bit of an affinity with personalised plates, a few that my mates have:

SIS13 ("sissie" - fitted to various nissan 200SX/silvias)
57ABU ("stab you" - was fitted to ratted rodeo mini truck, now fitted to his wife's daily drive lol)
57UFT ("stuffed" - fitted to 900HP 1989 R31 nissan skyline)
74ILY ("taily" - fitted to cosworth turbo powered MK2 escort which is very taily...)

You boys are getting seen to $2300 is a joke. I was going to get personal plates until i moved to QLD. WA $495 is the most expensive, one of payment letters or numbers or both. 7 letters i think is cheap, but 9 is biggest.

About 4 years ago, my wife bought me my number plates (VIC) and she said she only paid aoub $250 for them - LOIAL5

In QLD, it depends what you get, they range from about $300, up to $2300 for the prestige (any combination up to 7 characters). It's a one off fee, and, as long as you choose a combination or word that is likely to be popular, you can make some serious coin off them if you sell. A plate "TAX SUX" sold for like $120,000 a few years ago... there has been plenty like that as well. Myself and my mates get offers occasionally for ours.
