Installed a snorkel on my D40 yesterday just an Ebay version of snorkel but it seems good quality only thing is the instructions as to what happens with the airbox were a bit confusing to say the least. So it now just bypasses the whole bottom chamber of the air box and runs straight into the airbox. Is this all looking right? Thanks.

The two pipes on the second image are what was removed.

There are two reasons for the other chambers to be used (and both are good reasons). Firstly, to remove water from the air stream when it's raining. The standard air filter is paper and believe me, it does disintegrate when wet.

The second reason is sound. Lining the lower chamber is a cylinder with holes - these are baffles that cause the air to basically shed the induction noise that would otherwise be clearly audible from the front of the car - it sounds like a timing chain failing. I know - I've removed my baffle and my car makes a clack-clack clatter when idling, although I admit it's nice to hear the turbo spooling up when applying the throttle.

The sound doesn't concern me i actually like it sounding a bit gruntier although the idea of water running through it does so in order for my new setup to remove water from the airstream I would have to reroute the silicone hose through the other ducting as it was previously?

If you have a photo that would be quite handy, I searched through the forum for similar posts but couldn't find anything.

Thankyou for your response.

I just went out and took this pic - my snorkel enters from the top right of the photo and enters the airbox at the front.
