Hey Guys,

I am in need of another spare for my cape york trip as pre caution as it seems most people take two spares. I currently have yokohama 265/75/16s on the car they are D load range and only 8 play (wish I got 10 ply but oh well, bought them before I knew about tyres and got a decent price). I have one spare on the steel rim under the tub with a bridgestone dueler 265/75/16 (not sure on ply rating may only be 6-8 ply) which I got for free off a mate, only has about 40% tread on it though, only planned to use it in an emergency.

I cant find any decent second hand tyres, so my only option appears to be new. I have my old alloy d22 rims so I figured I would put it on one of those. I basically did a ring around to locals looking for a 265/75/16 10 ply LT construction tyre, most prices are about the $250 (Another yoko geolandar is $258). And apart from the cheap chinese crap the most decent priced one I could find was a summit AW (May be called trail climber?) for $180. Has anyone used these tyres? Are they decent? I dont want to spend heaps on a spare which I may never use. Others I have looked at are hankook rf10 ($260), generaly grabber at2($250), bridgestone D674 ($235, more a mud tyre though). Most of the other major brands are more pricey.

Also heard good things about Radar renegades but they are mud pattern as well, but may be another cheaper option.

Cheers,
Alex
