I have a 2013 2WD D40 auto 2.5TD and have noticed a clunk from under the vehicle on take off.
it only seems to happen when stopped and just as you take off. there is no noise when going on and off the throttle while moving. Diff backlash seems ok..
Any thoughts??

Welcome to the forum.

Are we sure that the drive shaft unis are ok? It would also be an idea to check gearbox mounts, crossmember and maybe even give the engine mounts a quick poke.

However, it's also possible that it's suspension-related, a loose bush in the control arm will do that too. I had to replace my UCA bushes for that very reason.

Any Luck?

Hey Stirlo79,
Has there been any luck with this? I have noticed it on my Navara D40 2013 2wd i got 3 weeks ago. I also noticed this on a further 2, d40 2012 2wd and 2013 2wd i took for test drive. I figured that this was normal but i might be wrong?
Thanks

Forgot to add, ive also noticed this clunk when slow down and just about coming to a stop.

Hi Cheesy,

Welcome to the forum.

If you feel confident in doing it, I'd drain the trans fluid & check for anything metallic in the oil.

Or, perhaps get the trans serviced by a reputable auto trans specialist. They'll soon tell you if anything is seriously wrong with it.

Good luck with it!

Still haven't had a chance to get a good look over it and now back at work..

I thought the auto trans was a non serviceable unit??
