Hey Fellas,

We have made some good progress on our new suspension system for the D40 Navara so I thought it was time to make a post and let you all know what we have been upto for the past 6 moths or so.

Just a bit of quick background on Monster Rides and our ReKon (Pronounced "Re-Kon" short for reconnaissance) suspension kit for the +05 Hilux.
Basically to date we have been a company that has specialised in +05 Hilux parts and accessories... we have kind of come to the end of our development on parts for that truck and over the past 6 moths or so have started looking at other vehicles to develop products for. We've been working on Rodeo/Isuzu Ute, Pre 05 Torsion Bar IFS Hilux, the new Ford Ranger and Triton (Don't hate us)

So here is some info on what we have developed for the +05 Hilux:
1.25" or 20mm Extended Ball Joint Upper Control Arms (UCA's)
Diff Relocation Brackets
Height adjustable Front Coilovers - Screw adjustbale
Long travel rear shocks
Swaybar Relocators
UCA Adjustable Droop Stops
Bash plates
Drop shackles

This kit has proved really popular and we have over 50 guys running around with these kits on thier Hilux's, embarrassing solid axle trucks all over the country!
We get 11.5" of wheel travel from the front and couple that with lockers, 33's and bash plates these trucks keep wheels on the ground and keep on moving where other trucks lift wheels and lose traction and momentum.

All our gear except the shock bodies and uniball/balljoints is locally made and proudly Australian.

Ok... so where have we got to with this kit?

Basically we have dialed in the valving and set up on the shocks, and almost finished with the screw adjustable coil seat upgrade on for the shock body.

Here are some images of Ray's D40 that is one of our test mule trucks wearing the 3" kit... these are just a static shock, with fixed spring seat.
So all this truck has is front coilovers, rear shocks and drop shackles.

Pictured here with his mates Jacks ReKon equiped Hilux, both truck run 285/75R16's...

We had a really good head start on the valving for the shock based on our initial 12 months of testing on the Hilux, and the year that has passed since we first released them. The high and low speed dampening characteristics of these shocks really sets them apart from everything else on the market. When we add our remote res and externally adjustable shocks to our line up over the next few months we will have an option to suit everyone's truck. These new shocks are really trick, and we can't wait to unleash them into the market. Working with some really switched on guys at the top of their game for these new shocks...

So right now we are working on the UCA's... trying to get the amount of extra castor we build into them right, while still allowing extra clearance on the coil for increased down travel, one of the real limiting factors on the D40. Once we have this we will be happy to release the kit.

The diff brackets to drop the diff down to get the CV's flatter might not eventuate... the set up on the D40 with the alloy diff and brackets kind of built into the diff is quite unique, so cross your fingers and we might have a victory.

Bottomline from us is to build a suspension kit (Note, not a lift kit) for the D40 that has incredible ride quality both on and off road, maximises the amount of wheel travel available and keeps CV angles as flat as possible.
Couple this with bash plates and other barwork we have planned and it will make for a very capable kit that dramatically increases the offroad ability of the D40.
I think a 4" kit will prove illusive... but we are confident of a 3"... maybe a 3.5" kit will be a reality. Again the trick is to keep the CV's flat with the lift, like we have with the Hilux. Basically at 3" of lift we have flat CV's, with no drop brackets, just a small section of the diff which drops below the crossmember and is housed by the bash plate as seen in the photos above.

So to anyone who is after a suspension kit for the D40 we should have something for you shortly, I'd say maybe February is realistic.
Not rally keen on releasing gear before we have the screw adjustable coilovers done and the UCA's finished as well.

Feel free to shoot over any questions you have, best to email me as I don't get on the forums as often as I used to.

Our website has been down for sometime... really shithouse but our focus has been product development and there is a real push to have it re-launched by years end, ready for the onslaught of 2012.

We will be at Tuff Truck again in 2012, so if you'd like to see a truck with this kit head on down have have a chat about your truck.

Big Thanks to Ray for his help with the kit, and patience in getting it!
Also to rest of the guys who have given us tips and things to look out for based on your experiences with these D40's... certainly appreciated and will help us produce a better kit.

I look forward to getting this kit finished and ready for the market and hopefully meeting you guys out on the trails.

Cheers
Matt

It's having companies like you guys around that makes things so much more worthwhile.

While I can't lift my truck yet, I have every intention of doing so - I get along really well with my inlaws, and my mother-in-law is frail and can only just climb into my D40 now, if I lift it then we don't go places which would be quite a shame. That's why I'm still at stock height.

However, that's not forever and we're talking lift. I want new leaf springs at the rear - not shackles. I'm regularly stuffing the Engel fridge - call it 40kg full - plus my recovery gear, maybe another 40kg - and 4 jerry cans of diesel (80kg) plus about 20kg of tools and 25kg of water and then 180kg of ball weight, so a total of 385 - call it 400kg of weight on the back and my truck's 2500kg empty.

Do you do replacement leaf packs as well?

I concur. It's nice to know that companies are doing some R&D rather than just turning out parts for a quick buck. It's something that i will look at in the future. I hope that all your time and effort is rewarded in sales.

Thanks for the kind words Tony... would seem you're quite the gentleman not lifting your truck for the benefit of the outlaws!
I know plenty of blokes who would do the opposite !!

In regards to leaf springs, yes we will develop a leaf spring to suit the D40.
This will be last on the development list, as there are good options already in the market and our focus is the front end right now.

Our leaf pack will be more geared towards offroad flex and ability, rather than load carrying ability.

Thanks Wade... As a new company MR has always striven to produce top quality gear that does it's job. We support our gear with 2 year unlimited kilometer warranty... no questions asked. The exception is blokes who treat their trucks like dirt bikes and try to hop 30 foot gaps! then again I take my hat off to anyone with that kind of reckless abandon for a newish truck!

We haven't had a website up for over 6 months... it was a crapola website so I pulled it down to re-build it. Gettng closer to finishing it, but it's still sometime off. Our sales continue to grow inspite of this lack of website...
Why? Well a lot to do with word of mouth and internet forums.
Our customers like our gear and service and as such our brand is growing.
This is really encouraging and we look forward to a big 2012 with new products and a working website with shopping cart etc.

We have a better photo of the CV angle Ray is running in his truck... Pretty flat and could easily take some more lift.
I would suggest his 3" has settled a little, maybe down to 2.5", but we need to measure this and compare with stock.

Anyways that's all from us at the moment...

you need to seal the top of those uni balls off on those uca's with some sort of cap because they fill with dirt ,sh#t and water i have total chaos uca's which is the same set up as your uca's. It looks like a great kit but if you dont cap or cover them uniballs off you will be replacing them every 12 months like i did and at 260 bucks for replacement uniballs you get a bit sick of it which is why i capped mine off. I can send a photo of my set up if you want to see how i capped my uniballs off if you like just let me know. sam,

All is looking good, will be great to see how the uca's end up as I have been waiting for these to come out for a few months now and support aussie suspension builders.

Have you considered producing equipment for the D22 at all???

Hope so, looks like some quality gear and it is nice when the money we outlay on our trucks stays in the country.

Hey that is my navara lol. Well firstly id like to say a big thanks to matt for getting this kit out and im really happy with it. Awsome flex offroad and sweet handling on road. I cannot wait to bolt more MR mods onto it. Look forward to see whats to
Come. Thanks matt

Ray215- hows the cv angle at full flex, what rear lift fo you run and does it sit level

Onlock. The cv angle at full flex is good. Ive had no dramas as yet with it. It handles really well. As for the price imnot sure. Its still going through development. Hopefully its ready soon. As for the back i run drop shackles and a 1 inch block for now. Im waiting to see how we go with the front and get some leafs to match the front when its all settled. When i firat bought this kit i rang a 4x4 supplier (wont name names) to order my tires. The bloke on the other end pretty much shut me don and said no one makes a 3 inch kit and 285s wouldnt fit with a 3 inch kit. He was very arrogqnt and i just hung up. And i can say that they fit. Just abit of guard massaging in the front. Easy as. Im thinking about ringing him up and telling him were to shove it.
