Nissan in their wisdom state "Nissan Coolant" and give no details about it.
I'm going to be mixing 50% ethylene glycol and 50% water for my Goldwing, which only has water in it at the moment and if it gets below zero here in winter (which it does) I'll have problems if I don't.
The reason for 50% mix is that ethylene glycol is not so great at transferring heat (about half as effective as water) but is excellent at modifying the freezing/boiling point of water and at inhibiting corrosion. At 50% mix, the freezing point is brought to about -30C (you can bring it to -45C with a 60% EG/40% W mix) and the boiling point is raised to about 108C.
There are no other recommended ratios. Australia requires that ethylene glycol based coolants have a bittering agent added because EG on its own is sweet and toxic.
