Can anyone tell me what the right output from the alternator should be?
Mine is pushing up to 15.9 volts maybe that is why mybatterykeeps running out of water.
Thanks for any replies.

exactly the reason......should be a max about 14.1ish

yours is cooking the battery now.....get the regulator checked/replaced pronto

^ What he said.

Should be around 14.5 volts.

Put a Patrol alternator on it. Not parts from the dinosaur TD42.

ZD30 ?

Yeah my scangauge reads about 14.1/14.2 when the car is running, should be that.

+1 on the regulator.

14.4-14.7V is the typical range for a wet cell lead acid battery like your starter, wet cell deep cycle and AGM also. Maximum of 14.1V for a gel battery at any time (never try to equalise a gel battery.

Equalising a battery requires just over 15V for a couple of hours. Fizzes the battery and means you have to top it back up.

15.9V on yours is a battery killer if you keep it up.
