Not sure about the Diesel vs Petrol but AFIK the VQ40 is the same engine everywhere. When I changed my belt tensioner I installed a unit from the US and the one I took off was made in Canada.Belts are the same .
In a lot of cases the part numbers are the same too
 
oh ok...iv got YD25 though...surely all YD25 should be the same...hopefully

AFIK the YD25 is everywhere else bar the US in the truck or pathy range. They get only petrol engines like a D40 4cyl and the V6 .I think the D22 had a forced injection 4cyl petrol and the D21 was a N/A 4cyl petrol
 
The alternators are different between petrol and diesel. The diesel alternator puts out more power. It isn't a lot of difference, but the mounts won't be the same - the V6 is built differently to an in-line 4. I don't know of any difference between USA/Aus.
