Righto guys I am in need of some ideas. Currently at the moment i am working for a formwork company earning around 70k a year. I have worked for this company for the past 4 and a bit years and now things are starting to get really tight and i have a suspect feeling that they are going to get rid of my mate and I very soon.

The reason I think think this is my mate and I pretty much float from job to job and aren't part of any click. Now things have gotten to the point of foremans only keeping there mates, i have this feeling where on the chopping board.
I get along with everyone from work but i'm just not great mates with them.

So anywho I need some ideas on any type of jobs that are paying around the same money. I am willing to take anything on, don't care what it is. I am only 22 so still young and ready for anything.

I did contemplate the idea of a porn star but after discussing with the other half she doesn't seem to think its such a good job.

thanks in advance guys
joshy

and yes I am looking on seek and all that crap just wondering about some of your ideas

Sorry to rain on your parade but until you get rid of that hat (the one in your avatar) I doubt you'll make $70K in the porn industry.

Once upon a time if you wanted money and were prepared to work you'd head straight to the mines, I know of a few jobs going in WA which are $100K + and all you really need is a truck licence but there is no doubt similar jobs in QLD. While the mining boom has to end eventually there is no doubt still a few years left in it.

The next best thing is picking a job that will give you either 12 hour shifts or 10/14 shifts because they give you the time off in between to do other paying jobs. But you do have to take into account that working 12 hour days and getting 5 off doesn't mean you work less than the average 9 day fortnight person, so it's not like you are only working half the year. But getting your hours done in 4 days straight does have its bonuses.

More than anything it comes down to what you are trained for and what you are willing to further train for.

I have worked as a formworker since i finished school, did my full cert 3 in carpentry and I am willing to learn anything. I even contemplated doing my sparky apprenticeship.

i have always wanted to get into the mines but i know no-one who works out there, so if you know someone

Is the licence you need for those trucks a HR? I would love to do something like that

I have my dogmans ticket and i will be going for my basic rigger then intermediate rigger in the near future. Wish i had my riggers now as there are a few jobs going at the moment.

Where are you?
I was going to say www.aquasure.com.au but it seems like all positions have been filled. They are building the Vic De-sal plant and there were some very lucrative offers there - allegedly a TA can make $2000 a week. But they are all filled.

My job is up for grabs as a Beer Plumber here in Vic at the end of this week.
Company Van and fuel card.
Travel al over Victoria. Some interstate and international work
Accommodation and meals provided.
$46k PA
On the Job training.

Thats the positives - Learn about the rest on the job.

oh sorry I am in brisbane but for the right job i have no hesitation moving anywhere.

Don't know if I could move to victoria for a beer plumbing job thanks aido, as much as I would probably love it.

You can always move down here and have my job, I'll keep the cash but I've no problem letting you do the work.

Most mines will let you get the licences required given that not to many drivers out there need to be licenced to drive 250 tonnes but I'd reckon most would want to know you can handle a heavy vehicle at the bare minimum.

A mate of mine went from here driving single log trucks for about $70K to driving triples between mines in WA and is now making over $120K. It's good money but the conditions aren't always the best but atleast most of the trucks have air conditioning.

Only mine job I would consider is a FIFO position. You earn the big bucks because the working conditions are crap and the living expenses are also high, many people have being caught out with the price of accommodation.

The biggest problem with FIFO is you really have to be in the same state as the mine. It's pointless making base in the eastern states and getting a FIFO position in WA, and it would be similar living in the southern states and getting a job in the QLD mines. You might get a week or more off at a time but you spend so many hours getting to and from the place all it's good for is racking up FF miles. And very few companies will pay interstate miles so those will come out of your pay packet.

My sister in law has had a few FIFO jobs in central WA and the pay is good and the time off was good, and the only bad working conditions she had was the laziness of the others in her team who'd leave all the work they could for her on her two week stint but even she got sick of the high pay and the flying in and out and she was living in Perth so she was only FIFO on a Volkswagen with wings, no extended trips, no jet lag just easy comfy all expenses paid flights.

It is definitely a viable way of doing things if your prepared for the travel but if you don't have any problems moving to the regions being on site does allow much more flexible working hours and in two years of working you can pretty much set yourself up for living in any city if you spend your money wisely. The only down side will be that eventually the mining boom will burst and people will start loosing their highly paid jobs, it's already beginning in some areas of mining, it may never go completely belly up but it will definitely slow down.

Mines are a great head start if your good with money. I know alot of guys over here earning big dollars but also spending big dollars on their time off. FiFo is hard work but accommodation and food is covered.

I work for an engineering firm that supports mine sites and there should be a fair bit of work coming up on the gorgon project (barrow island fifo but apparently bad roster) they started construction of the accommodation recently. Decmil are the major contractors and would be worth sending a cv to.

Also my cousin who is my age gets flown from the east coast as a disel mech, gets paid extremely well for it

josh... not mining, mine constuction, formworkers are in high demand in NW west aus. generally 4 weeks on 1 week off ,10 hrs a day, 40 degree heat, accomadation and food paid for,sux if you got girlfriend, kids, family, friends, FIFO from any capital city in OZ. I did it for a while, ok if your with a good crew, otherwise just count the money !!

Hi guys,

Not that easy to get a mining job ever since the TV showed people making maga bucks. Tens of thousands flooded into WA to reap the big bucks only to discover it aint that easy to get in. You basically need to know someone in the game to get your foot in. You also need all your tickets and what have you before even contemplating having a go.

The mining companies big trucks are mostly being driven by women these days as the guys tend to drive them too hard.

You get nothing for nothing on the mines. Conditions are insane, stinking hot (40 deg is a cool day in many of the mines) , dirty, hard work, and dangerous. No one is going to pay you the big bucks without taking their pound of flesh.

Good luck though

DJ

thanks for all this information guys. Just heard the word that at this stage we just got a new contract for a 3 year site at hamilton, so hopefully have a job for 3 more years.
Happy days as long as they have it all signed up.
As for the mines I would love to get a job working in them, formworker, truck driver or rigger would be great for me as I would be able to save a lot of money.

thanks guys
