Simpson desert/Birsville races 2010

Hi All

Thought I'd put up a couple of images from our Ill fated trip.

There was 3 key things we wanted to do on the trip. Fish on the cooper near Innaminka, attend the Birdsville races, and cross the desert on the French line (east to west).

None of these things got ticked off because of the huge amounts of unseasonable rain up there. The strez was closed, races were cancelled because it was underwater!, and the road out to the desert was closed for too long and didn't leave us enough time to get home via the desert and Oodnadatta tk.

Oh, and I also lost about 70% of my photos because of a corrupted memory card.

Needless to say, I have already booked annual leave for a 2nd attempt in 2011.

Some of the things we did get to do were...

1) See lots of Sturt desert peas and wild flower (especially in Mount Chambers Gorge (Flinders Rangers)


2) Burger at Mungeranie Pub


3) Hit lots of puddles at creek crossings (deepest 0.75m)

4) Cross the Cooper ferry


5) Help drink the pub dry (172 tones of pissed shipped in drunk in just over 1 week)

6) See a NZ fella get a broken nose in Fred Brophy's boxing tent
7) Eat many many camel pies
** I have ZERO photos from Birdsville they all got lost when the memory card corrupted

8) Hit big Red



9) Escape from Birdsville along with 3000 other people

10) See QLD's channel country


11) Awesome sunsets and stars along the way

Bad luck with all your other pics Nathan. The ones you still have are great and it may be some time before you will see the deserts like that again.
I have been waiting for the roads to dry out there for a while now before heading off.
