Need to replace my front shock tomorrow morning and was wondering if anyone who has done this before has any tips for me? It looks pretty straight forward, just two bolts, but is there anything I should look out for?

Cheers!

Matt

Simple jack up front of car letting the supension droop.
Fit jack stand under chassis.
Remove wheel
Using a nikko pen mark the upper arm where the shock is almost touching.
Remove shock
Grind a small notch from upper control arm.
Fit new shock & tighten top nut.
Refit wheel.
Drop the car back to the ground & bounce car a bit.
Tighten lower shockie bolt at ride height.
Cheers

Hi Zordo. 2 questions for you. Do you need to grind the upper control arm with EFS shocks? I have read they fit without doing this?

Also what torque should the upper and lower mounting nuts need to be done up to? or just do it be feel?

Cheers Pete

I just do the bottom bolt tight but at ride height.
If you use EFS Elite shocks you have grind the upper arm

Same with OME....but am / would be reluctant do do so as this is against the wording of Vicroads legislation and will void warranty should you have any steering or handling issues. Worst that can happen if you dont provide clearance is that the outer sheath of the shock will dent and wear its own groove. EFS and OME are double skinned and so this does not provide any dilema.

Ok then. Thanks Zordo.

How much do they rub? does it just remove the paint on the shock or actually dint, wear the metal? using EFS elite's as an example.

I must admit, im not too keen on grinding the upper arm. Car is out of warranty and im not to fussed with anything like that, just dont like the idea..lol. I know it wont worry it in terms of stength or anything. Will have a think when i come to changing the shocks, if it needs to be it needs to be done i spose.

Cheers guys.

I only rubs a bit & over time it could wear a groove or dent the shock.
You are only grinding 3mm off the edge. Mty advice is just do it.
Hardy worth worring about & if you do it neatly no one would pick it.
Not even Vic roads
Your decision
Cheers
