This problem is often caused by corrosion in the electrical connector that sits under the vehicle on the drivers side just behind the front wheel arch. All the wires for the ABS and stability control are routed through this connector. From what I can see on my own vehicle this junction is open...

Intake and exhaust valve clearances are not required to be adjusted on the V6 diesel as they have hydraulic valve lash adjusters that take care of this. Likewise the vehicle does not have a CVT transmission (thank christ).
