Yes they were serious. I have let my thoughts known to the Manager and he is contacting Nissan. Apparently there has been quite a few complaints about it.

I had mine in for a service recently and was told a map update is available. It would cost $700.

A bit harsh. I loved my D40, which I had for 7 years, but recently upgraded to a NP300 STX. So far I am very happy with the new Nav, but letting the D40 go was very hard.

My 2008 STX goes in on Monday for a new timing chain and injectors under the extended warranty I very luckily purchased. I have been complaining for the last three services (30,000 K) that the vehicle lacked power and used a lot more fuel. Hopefully the new injectors and chain will fix things

Can you tell me what the boost specs are for the D40? what is the max?

Sorry I can't shed much more light than that. I suppose that if he had been flogging the car on the beach and then pulled up without idleing for a while it may have caused the fire. It could just be a faulty wiring loom or anything else.
