Hi all, I'm just new to the forum so a big hello to everybody.
I'm having some issues a my 2003 D22 3.0 TD which I recently just bought.
Over the Easter break I went on a road trip in my new ride. Everything was going real well until the engine management light came on and the engine wouldn't rev past 2500 rpm.
I pulled over at the side of the road and checked all the obvious things I could without having any tools with me like plugs etc. I then started the motor back up and the management light had went out and everything seemed fine again until I got about 3k's up the road and the same thing happened again.
Has anyone experienced this happening and if so what was your diagnoses. I'm pritty much living in the middle of nowhere with the nearest garage being around 3 hours away so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

I wonder if it's the neutral position switch or the heat switch left on? To test the NPS, hold the gear lever to one side while in the gear of choice and see if it changes.

My moneys on the fuel filter and/or water in it.
Im pretty sure, and happy to stand corrected, that the only reason engine light comes on in these things is water in the water trap at bottom of fuel filter.
Also check air filter.

Thanks guys for your input. It's much appreciated. The water in fuel sounds like it is the most probable cause of the engine light coming on and only revving to 2500rpm as the whole time I was on my road trip I was filling the fuel tank from an empty 220 litre barrel I had strapped into the tub. With the heat out here it's likely that there was a build up of condensation in the barrel. I'm going to change the fuel filter and get a full fill from the service station. I'll let you's know how I get on. Thanks again guys.

There is a drain valve thingy on the bottom of the filter if you want to try that first.
Dont muck around with crappy fuel on these things. Modern injectors and the injector pump are too sensitive for it imo. Common rails even more so. If your remote and limited for choices have a look at that mr. funnel I think its called. Its a crap and water seperating funnel that costs about $100. I will try to find a link to it later.

From the manual

Looks like the drain cock is the smallest bit down the bottom and you have to loosen it about 5 turns. (ive never had to do it).
As for changing the fuel filter, ignore whats on the page, there are way better instructions on here that explain how and why we clamp the fuel lines. Use search function.
