Ive just started having ths issue myself. Original resistor blew after a big soaking when i got stuck in a bog hole and flooded the poor nav. No surprises as to what caused the resistor to corrode...

Pulled the starter. 3 of the 4 brushes were seized in their holders. Bit of corrosion from their swim. And the commutator was a bit ugly, uneven wear from stuck brushes and dirty

Ive got it starting without throwing a cel pretty much every time now. Using a little throttle. Im leaning towards starter motor.

A quick look on ebay there...

Gives a good idea. Keep in mind the phone camera brightens everything up. The light on the right is very dull silvered globes. The new smd leds are just right in my opinion....
