Does anyone know if the ute tub on a d22 is earthed,
I'm hooking up a 2nd battery in the tray and want to run
The earth directly from the tray
 
You would say so as it is bolted to the chassis which is grounded. Easiest way to find out is to get out your multimeter, flick it to ohms/continuity (hopefully it beeps for continuity) find a known ground and check between an unpainted part of the tray and the known ground. If it beeps or has little to no resistance you've got ground.

In saying that your probably better off running the ground to a known grounded bolt somewhere close to the tub where it won't be in the way.
 
On my 2005 the tub is not earthed, I found out when I was putting 2 extras in the tray.
