Hi all Today i have found out that certain model GME uhf radios can be upgraded from 40 channel to 80 channel. The TX3100 is one of those models but only for certain serial numbers. The process of upgrading the unit is by entering in a sequence of channels then turning the unit off and then on again. The instructions can be found on their web site News | GME
My unit wasn't one of them I'm told i can send my unit back and for $150 i can have it upgraded .Has anyone done this or does anyone know how to do it if your serial number is pre upgradeable.

Upgrading your Compatible GME UHF CB Radio to 80 Channels*
The ACMA (Australian Communications and Media Authority) have recently released a new class
licence allowing UHF CB radios to operate on a new 80 channel narrow band standard.
In December 2010, in preparation for this new standard, GME began building UHF CB radios that
complied with both the original 40 channel wideband standard and the new 80 channel narrowband
standard. This allowed customers to purchase ‘future proofed’ 40 channel radios prior to the release
of the new standard that could be switched to the new 80 channel standard once it was mandated.
As of June, 2011, owners of compatible radios can now operate on the new 80 channel narrow band
channels.
GME radios that are 80-channel compatible can be easily identified by an ’80 Channel Upgradable’
sticker on the packaging and by the following serial number prefixes.
All models with serial number prefix’s 011 (November 2010) or earlier as well as TX4400 and TX4600
models with serial number prefix’s 101 (January 2011) or earlier are unfortunately not able to be
upgraded to 80 channel narrow band operation. From serial number 106xxxxxx onwards, all the
above models will be factory enabled for 80 channel operation.
Compatible GME radios can be either User upgraded or Dealer upgraded depending on the model.
Please refer to the table above.
User Upgradable
If your GME 40 channel UHF radio is listed as User Upgradable, you can upgrade it yourself as
follows;
Connect your radio to a 12 Volt power source and switch it on. Use the following channel selection
sequence to upgrade your radio. If at any point you make a mistake, simply switch it OFF then ON
again and repeat the sequence from step 1.
1. Select Channel 7.
2. Switch the radio OFF then ON again.
3. Select Channel 23.
4. Switch the radio OFF then ON again.
5. Select Channel 39.
6. Switch the radio OFF then ON again.
7. Select Channel 15.
8. Switch the radio OFF then ON again.
9. Select Channel 31.
10. Switch the radio OFF then ON again.
If the upgrade was successful, channel 80 will be displayed.
Dealer Upgradable
If your GME 40 channel UHF radio is listed as Dealer Upgradable, please contact your local GME CB
radio distributor or your local GME branch office to arrange for it to be upgraded. The dealer upgrade
service is performed free of charge.
*Please note the following facts regarding the 80 Channel Standard.
There are 75 voice channels.
Channels 22 and 23 are reserved for telemetry and telecommand, channel 61, 62 and 63 are reserved for future use. This radio can receive on these channels however voice transmission is inhibited.
