Hi All, New to the Forum
Just bought a 03 D22 2 weeks ago and loving it already.
Ive been invited up to Cape york in mid July with a few mates and thought i better start preparing now. i always said to my self if i own a dual cab ute i would have a go at making up some rear draws for myself, so here goes.

Went down to Bunnings yesterday to pick out some plywood and decided on the Black formply 17mm thick. Only reason i didnt take the Marine grade was because ive got a canopy and thought it would never get wet (touch wood).

i bought 3 sheets in total and got it all cut out to size after measuring out the tub. i got 2 sheets measuring 2400x600 17mm and another 1800x1200 17mm.

All of that cost me $96.00
Also couldn't resist and bought myself a pelican cargo case for the roof basket i pick up tomorrow from ARB.

Will keep updating with pictures until finished.

does anyone recommend a place to get draw slides that are not to expensive ?

You may find that now you are using formply you can go without roller bearings or draw rails. Formply the draws and have the 2 glossy surfaces facing each other. Add some wax/drylube/lithium grease to the area and they will slide perfectly.make sure you put a barrel bolt in to stop them sliding back in or out when driving. Keep up the good work

Havent been on here for a while, been busy with work and other things. Had work off today so decided i needed to continue with the drawers. Picked up some 1100mm drawer slides for $110 each from www.holjack.com.au free shipping included and there rated to 125kg. Hopefully tomorrow i can attach the slides to the draws and make up the top. Still waiting for the Battery box to arrive.

looks awesome so far mate, I've got a trip in sept and was planning on starting on a drawer/fridge slide setup & bual dattery soon

Keep us updated

Is that black ply that you are using for the bottom and drawer base 18/19mm formply?
You will definitely need the slides if it is as the drawers don't slide too well on that stuff(it is what I used).

Will do Balis0r

teryc, this picture was just a progress pic. i have since installed 125kg rated draw slides

These drawers so far look great, nice job.

Keep the pics coming, ( I'll need to refer to them when I make mine, :cheers!: ) The $1500.00 drawer kits are nice, but.........

Heres some more. nearly time for the marine carpet and maybe some checkerplate for the front of the draws...

You got me thinking I've really got to started on drawers for my D22 soon as well. Prices plywood yesterday for the draw base yesterday and nearly died, $227 for a piece 3050x1500x17mm Ply large enough to be cut out to fit the whole tub bed area, rethinking now.

General idea is a one draw fridge compo, using similar slides as you have used

Oz,

was hoping to get one piece of 1500x1500 as the base, as my fridge slide in my plans needs to be fitted around 230mm from the tub edge. 1500x1500 base would fit snugly from one side of the tub to the other and cut to fit around the wheel arches.

Think I will end up going with a couple of pieces of 2400x1200, this will leave the Base flush on the draw side, and leave the base short by 30mm to the tub wall on the fridge side, should be able to live with that I think.

Nice work on the drawers mate, how are the slides goin for you? I'm gna order some this week if there good. Did you fix the box to the tub or is it just sitting tightly?

drawers are good still empty as not finished yet so hopefully they hold up alright. At the moment the draws are just sitting tightly but i think i will bolt them down eventually

Prices plywood yesterday for the draw base yesterday and nearly died, $227 for a piece 3050x1500x17mm Ply

I've just been over to Mr Plywood to get prices for a draw/box project i'm planning to start and for B-B A Grade external ply (1200x1400) ply and was quoted:

12mm = $125
9mm = $115
6.5mm = $85

Now I know these prices are always going to be more expensive than Bunnings because I'm after the better quality ply (BBA grade) because I will be fibreglassing it all to make it tough and durable so need the good ply to minimise epoxy quantities and generally Mae it a stronger job.

Just wanted to check how these prices stacked up to other people experience. Do they seem reasonable?

i got the ply reasonabley cheap because i work at bunnings :) i got one of the 1200x900 sheet for $5 because it had a ''chip'' in it :p
