Well, finally made my mind up and got the job done. Rear storage system complete.

I have finished the props to hold the lids up - the are simple round bar, hinged at the bottom.

I was after hatches, not drawers, as they suit my needs better.

Built from 17mm film faced (non structural) hardwood ply, screwed and glued, with adhesive carpet covering. Total cost - $340 and about a day and a half of my time.

Heavy. Real heavy. A GVM upgrade would be nice, lets put it that way.

ARB do them, I'm sure others do too. Rego costs will rise (in NSW at least - weight tax). Woody suffered the same issue when he made his draw system from thick ply. It was a sturdy unit, but his GVM went over the 3T mark, he said - that's why I asked! :)

Sweet, will investigate that, thanks Tony.

The good thing is, rego cost won't rise here in Tassie - primarily based on the number of cyls the vehicle has, can you believe that? My wifes Focus XR5 turbo costs more to register (5 cyl engine) than my D40.
