Gear box neutral gear stripped

hey guys took my car to nissan and found out my neutral gear
has stripped teeth, so they are taking my gearbox to a specialist
to get it fixed, all under warranty.
What is neutral gear?
That's the first time I've heard of that. By the usual definition, "neutral" means "not in gear" which means NO gear.
The manual for the D40 (MT.PDF) doesn't provide a breakdown of the actual gearbox itself, only that you can remove it. The only mention of the word "neutral" is for the Neutral Position Switch.
It's great that they're fixing it under warranty, but I wonder what it is that they're fixing? I'd hate to be told that they've found a problem in my magnetron and it will happily be replaced. Of all the things in a 4WD that could break ...

sounds like nissan pulling the wool over your eyes while they fix a more serious problem that they dont want you to know about at least its warranty would really like to know what it is though could they of meant neautral gear in transfer box ????

Same same, no such thing as a neutral "Gear" as such even in the transfer case. All the gears in the manual box except reverse are in constant mesh, when you put it in gear what you are doing is coupling the driven gear to the main (Output) shaft.

I want to know what nuetral gear is also.If you are in nuetral there is no gear.
What is your gear box doing.What has happened to it for you to notice a problam.
Is it making noises wheyou are in gear or nuetral.I would say you have problams with the synchros or if the problam is worse it has probably shat a main shaft if it doesn't drive.

If its making unusual noises in neutral,
it "can" be:
bearings/ bearing gone,
broken/chipped/worn gear teeth on input shaft/ cluster gear
if the noise is confirmed to be in the gearbox.

well the problem was; when i was on idle, in neutral, the gearbox would
make a small knocking noise. the knocking noise would go away when the clutch was engadged. i spoke to a mechanic, he said it isnt the thrus or thrust bearing or throw out bearing, because the noise was unknown to him it was too different to call it the throw out bearing.
nissan told me some teeth were missing in the gearbox, he told me something about the neutral gear. im so happy with there service there was no problem with them fixing it.

What I find annoying is that the service people were quite happy to just throw some bullshit out and see it get swallowed.

That is MUCH better than "neutral gear". "Neutral gear" usually means civilian clothing in a field in Normandy in the 1940s, or a gray shirt, black pants and black shoes in the middle of a Mardi Gras parade. Although that could also be interpreted as "bait".

the report said that the dual mass flywheel had missing springs, and the clutch dampener was extremly loose.
took them a while to fix it, but shes back to normal

Great to hear it's fixed. I wonder how some springs could be missing ... from a flywheel ... that's very odd indeed, and sounds a bit like more bullshit, but at least it's working again!

The sounds you heard definitely sound like thrust race to me
Im guessing they found something else when they pulled the box out
Ask them as the owner where your truck was taken to get repaired and you would like to see the busted bits .

i wouldn't have thought it would be very nice to drive with missing springs, but it could be possible with a dual mass flywheel. they have dampener springs inside them to reduce the nvh levels inside the cabin... it's a big 2 piece thing, one solid piece that bolts to the crank and another drum piece that the pressure plate bolts to that sits over the top
