can anyone tell me if the 3.2l diesel has strong enough internals to handle a turbo, and if so how much boost it can handle.

there is a factory turbo version and a few aftermarket turbo kits.
its not so much how much boost it can handle but rather how much fuel that you can shove in it.

I had a 97 QD32 tray back, bought ZD30 navara turbo from wreckers and made my own exhaust manifold and piping. Stainless braided lines for oil, new straight through exhaust. Fit a egt gauge, Then wound the pump screw IN about 1/4 to 1/2 a turn. To do this cut a 13mm spanner in half as you may need to do it a couple of times to get egt right. The difference was huge. More power than a stock ZD30. Had the car for 280k kms, 8 yrs with no problems at all. Doing it myself saved heaps as there wasn't many kits back then.

I got a Qd32 diesel and bolted a turbo on a few months back. Big difference in power to NA.
I run bout 11 psi and have not had any problems at all yet. If you do it yourself which is what i did cause it is very simple, i would suggest taking it to a diesel specialist with a dyno to tune it properly. I too have asked the question of how much boost can these motors handle but no reply. Not to many have the QD32.

Mine was running 15psi with reasonable eg temps, though I did reduce it to 13 after the novalty wore off. Not to mention better fuel economy too.

i have a zd 30 turbo for my qd32 as well as an intercooler off a 2.8 litre gu patrol, just lining up dump pipe egr and exhaust before fitting it all up. i'm told 3 inch ehaust is the go. anythoughts anyone? i like the idea of the zd30 airbox too

Hi Work Horse

Just do it. You wont be sorry.
Did mine in December last and I love it. Only running 10lbs at the mo. I have 2.5 inch exhaust (plenty big enough) with a muffler, and a front mount inverter from a Silvia. Getting better fuel consumption and tows my small boat really well.

which ZD30 turbo? theres a few of them.
personally i wouldn't fit any of them. ZD30 is slightly smaller engine at higher boost where as the QD32 is slightly bigger with lower boost.
the TD27 turbo (or gu 2.8) might be better suited.

Does a zd30 exhaust manifold fit the qd32?
