    The extra horsepower was one thing that attracted me to the D40, the longer wheelbase and wider track is also an advantage. Economy is important, but not that high up on my list compared to the other features. Looking like a D40 it will be.

    Thanks for your reply. It will definitely be a manual, and I am already expecting to replace the clutch with a single mass flywheel and HD clutch at some time. I have been easy on clutches in the past, so don't expect it to be a major issue - been driving diesels for a long time. Had a manual...

    How I bought a D40

    Hi Harry, Thanks for your story. I also cooked the motor on my last 4WD, a Pajero towing my camper trailer up the hills north of Murrurundi. We were on our way home when it happened in January. I am now looking for a replacement and the D40 is on the short list (circa 2007). Cheers,

    Our cooking gear consists mainly of spun steel pans and camp ovens from Hillbilly. Great stuff, works well and easy to look after. Cheers, Greg

    The best way is to make a list of wants, with the "must haves" and the "would like to have". This will eliminate a few. It also depends on how you are going to use it. Will you be staying one night and moving on, or staying put in one place. Going to the cape will require a tough camper...
