mate the d22 is an awesome 4x4, and as you mentioned earlier 1 sexy beast. i know from what you have probally read about nissan's customer service is pretty ordinary but if you investergate further you will find they are all pretty crap, lets face it if they can get out of paying for something...

mate if its the sound im thinking of it could spell bad news. mine had a similar sound going by your description and ended up being the exhaust valves on cylinder 2 had a clearance of 3-3.5mm. to cut a long story short it was a head off job, new head and top end rebuild. i got the old girl back...

i finally got around to fitting a oil catch can the other week, looks like its fixed the problem. must of just been the breather (blow by) causing the oil leakage
