Hello,
Pretty new to this forum as I never had any problems with my D40.
But now after 240t km I got some problems with my EGR System.
After changing the valve I noticed a problem with my cooling system.
Long story short, the EGR cooler is broken :/.

Is there any easy way to get it out, to replace it? As the screws at the backside seem to be very tricky.

A little add:
I tried to blank the EGR system and unplug the EGR cooler from the coolant, so the runs just threw the valve. But I got an ECU error code with that. Probably I can help that out with a small (3mm) hole?
Instead of changing the whole EGR cooler?

Thanks a lot for your help,
Bernhard from Austria

Not sure what is broken with your egr cooler, it's just a section of square tube around the air tube with coolant circulation.
I've changed the egr which was fiddly enough, so guessing the cooler is equally difficult.
You could put a new cooler on, or blank the egr (with 8mm hole) and bypass the cooler or get the egr deleted from the ECU .

Hello,
Thanks a lot for your answer!
Well I am not sure what can be broken inside.
But after some issues with the EGR system I changed the valve. After that i still all the time got gases in the EGR cooling system, causing a fault. I released the Gas many time, but it always came back again.
After a longer ride I noticed lose of coolant and white smoke. Did a CO2 and compression test on the engine…. Everything has been fine.

So I tried to blank the EGR system and unplugged the EGR cooler from the coolant system….. after that, no more white smoke while driving and no gases in the coolant system.
I am not sure if I am correct with my diagnoses, but for me it seems like there is a small crack in the EGR cooler causing that’s problem.

Your diagnosis looks correct. As you said, the easiest method to resolve this would be the blanking plate with hole and bypassing the cooler.

Hello,
Just wanted to tell you all, that it seems to work out.
Let you guys know more after a couple of 100km :)
Thanks for all the help!

Hello,
I did a couple of km now and the solution seems to work out!
Thanks for your help.
Hi Bernhard, after replacing the radiator in my D40 V9X Navara, I ended with an "EGR cooling performance" error (P2457), so I am interested in your issue. When you unplugged the cooler from the coolant system did you loop the pipes, block pipes, join pipes, etc. I have blanked off the EGR but with a 6mm hole in the plate. The EGR has been deleted in the computer (the annoying thing is that the first thing mechanics want to do is replace the EGR!) In Australia $350 plus labour!
Your information will hopefully be of great help, Regards Eric

Hi Rice,

If you deleted the EGR from the system, why have you left a 6mm hole in your blanking plate? As that is just a work around if you havent deleted the codes/EGR…

Ive blanked mine off with no hole so no soot/fumes get through and deleted the codes in the ECU.

Hello,
That’s what I did:
-replace the stuck valve
- blanked the EGR with an 8mm hole
- unplugged the EGR cooler as it leaked and I don’t know how to replace it easy without removing half of the engine. Therefore I remove the small L shaped rubber hose between the cooler and the valve and simply plugged the other hose grime the cooler directly to the valve. No other parts needed.

It just worked out for me like that because my cooler leaked.

Hi
This is a common problem with cooling plumbing interference on the V9X.
There is a EGR electric operated cooling pump for the EGR system, the pump (looking forwards) is down low near the LH side of the radiator.
Access the cooling system bleed ports, 4 off, with engine running bleed of any trapped air, top up coolant as required. You will also have to delete the fault to clear the check engine warning light.

I also found this from another member.... I have had p2457 on my 550 when I changed the coolant.I think its the egr cooling pump running out of prime. The pump is located at bottom lhs of radiator. There are 2 hoses that come up near the over flow tank and go to egr cooler and pump.I pulled them off an filled them with coolant cleared codes and they never came back./QUOTE]

A former mechanic, now retired, told me to do that, maybe he was not aware the EGR was deleted, perhaps I didn't mention it, too long ago to remember. I will make new blank plates this weekend.

Hi Bernhard, if you cannot find any parts specifically for a Nissan V9X engine in Europe do a search for Renault as they manufactured the engine and the V9X engine is used in a number of Renault vehicles.

Yeah the 6mm hole is only if you dont ‘delete’ the EGR from the ecu as it prevents the flow fault codes causing engine lights.
If you get the EGR deleted from the ECU (removing the fault codes) then you obviously dont need the 6mm to fool the ECU
